suitable gun for a youngster

Recommended Posts

Our little one is really enjoying coming out and about with us and is keen to learn how to shoot.

He is a very tall and mature 6 year old so we have no major worries that he will be sensible and listen to us.

But the problem we are having is most of the air rifles we have tried him with are either too heavy or too long for him to get the correct positioning etc.

I have been having a quick look around the internet (especially the Airsoft stuff) but I was wondering if any of you have started your wee ones early and what type of gun you went for?

BSA Meteor would be a good consideration alongside the HW25. Both are aimed at exactly the type of situation you are looking at.

Personally, I'd recommend buying the gun with open sights first. then line him up with a scope for his birthday, definitely go for a 4x32 or a 4x40.

Not too sure about the Lighthunters lads.... giving a 6 year old £500-worth of gun & scope is a bit much!

The Falcon is very light, fair enough but it's made for adult frames.

I'd go for the HW25 as has already been said, not only for the fact it is made for youngsters but it will also get him used to recoil and that's something PCP's can never do. Don't make the kid gun-shy....

Cheers and good luck!

just got the young one a cometa 50 in .177 with some 4x20 scopes. cost me about £95. might not be the best gun in the world, but plenty good enough for popping targets and getting his arms used to it until i think he is a good enough shot, then providing he sticks with it he will be getting a decent gun to move on to quarry with.
