FightTheBan 1,147
Saluki grayhound of some description. If your working mans land though (Ayrshire lol) you deffo need a bit of whippet for off the mark burst, otherwise hares will be a total pisstake. Quote Link to post
Ginny Spinner 455
Most of the big names in coursing world are saluki lurcher, not saluki/greyhound. The Merlin and Eve lines are said to have beddlington and other breeds in them. Captain is out of Gazza who is out of Laddie, which i think was an accidental mating on the streets lol. Although there is a high percentage of saluki in them, from what i have read or seen on dvd the best ones seem to be saluki lurchers. Quote Link to post
beefcurry 0
I agree that Salukis may have been bred 3/4 thousand years ago lads but that was for running gazelle on the desert grounds of the middle east wasn't it? Slightly different terrain to what we have over here. Not knocking any mans chosen breed of dog just interesting anology that they were bred 3/4 thousand years ago. thats why they are the best out there pal because they have 3 to 4 thousands years of history and selective breeding the best to the best hunting the supreme quarry gazelle wolves desert hares on the most testing of grounds rocks and gravel very course sands in heat in excess of 130 degrees at altitude then sleeping rough outside tents then where the temperature regularly dropped below 10 degrees these dogs are the only dogs on the planet that have never lost theyre origins or true identity they are the closest related to the cape hunting dog the saluki is unique to any other dog its lungs and heart are a third bigger than any other breed of dog there was a very interesting article on bbc radio two a month or so ago by a corresspondent for k9 who has been a proffessional dog trainer for 30 yrs training for the forces police and dogs for the blind he said in his opinion the most intelligent dog in his opinion was the saluki because it can think for itself and is so intelligent it out thinks its owner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fytDzwAg6o0 look how slow the dog in the bottom clip is and the way the dog in the top clip can slow his hare down and work it even on that stone and his feet perfecto after it . the saluki is the supreme hunting dog and only people who have never had them or people who know zilch about running dogs knock the tremendous contribution the saluki has made to running dogs in this country Quote Link to post

Annmarie09 5
No, seriously though, you can't beat a saluki cross for speed and stamina, but you need to put a lot of work in with them! Quote Link to post
