NBW Terrier 16
we use this for pull the foxes out very useful you put your terrier to groung to face the fox head on and you wont even get hold off it your self at the end ok mate, just for clearing, you dig for sport but we dig for pest control. we never let them free after a successful dig. if I can't kill them the gamekeeper never call me again. (by the hunting law we don't need the landowner's permission, because the landowners give the hunting right to the hunting company for 10 years, so if I want to dig, I need to get the gamekeeper's permission) the reason why they want to keep the number of predators as low as they can is the hunting companies very often raising pheasants what brings very good profit and more fun for them. we don't use t-bars, nets, lurchers. maybe because our hunting style comes from the Germans (by our history). the other thing why the tool is useful. some years ago our dogs pulled out the foxes many times, but we realized they lost their front teeth after pulling, so it helps to keep them in their mouth. I can say another example. we never backfill the holes as professional as you do. it is not important for us, cause if the fox move away, the gamekeeper is happy, and if the fox start to dig a new settle, it is much easier to eliminate it. very simple. but if you saw our backfill you would start to bitching us I'm 100% sure. the only reason of our backfill is just the others or any car not to fall in and no more. it is nothing more than another hunting culture. another country-another hunting law-another hunting way. (and don't forget we can dig badger full legal way and noone wants to arrest us because of it LOL) thats all, very simple, but it doesn't mean our dogs can't pull them out. I hope you can understand despite my broken english. Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
If you leave all your holes un inhabitable, the foxes will just move onto another patch and come and go as they please, making them even harder to catch up with and control. If its pest control, they are much easier managed when you know exactly where they will be, instead of looking for new earths every winter and spring. Quote Link to post

Yes, but believe me, they don't care the hole has dug or not, backfilled or not- they use it again and again. The gamekeepers are on the territory day by day so they know the places well.
