How big is too big in your Fell/Patterdales?

Recommended Posts

How big is too big for folks.I know in the U.K. the dogs generally are a bit larger. So how big(weight wise) is too big for you.If the dog works good and hard, locates, everything, just on the big side.DO you keep him,or discard him.Keep in mind he is a great working terrier.( just a hypothetical question,no real dog in mind)

That's what I was asking. There is no dog in particular I am referring to,just in general.I ask this based on conversations when folks say"too big for me".But I agree with you,as long as the desire to hunt, and everything else is in the dog,why would one not keep him?thanks

very true if possible fox in small tight place you have dog bit less to get up to fox get mark dig dispatch if not bigger dog give him a hand take longer but not his fault that he cant get long as you get result seen smaller dogs no heart too get there no matter how big tube is yet bigger dog dug to em like a cork in bottle nearly on last legs and fox a long way up tube thing is if it aint there you cant put it only bring it out and with a bit of luck aswell guide ya tyke into a worker and once the penny drops give them as much as possible so size wise well up to YOU regards dabber

In my experience most terriers big or small can become useful in the field at some point or other.. Ya may bring a big lad out everytime n only need him the odd time but time u need him he'l come up trumps n u'll be glad u had him, same goes for the little uns.. So most go for the medium size ones wit good strength cos can use em for most outings, but dont disregard the big or the small, they'v all got their uses..

Round about here most foxes to ground will be in dug out rabbit holes, especially at cubbing time. Some of these holes are unbileivably tight and i keep terriers short coupled for that reason, height doesnt matter, a good dog will fold its legs to get where it wants, if its too broad in the chest it would be next to useless to me.
