Deker 3,478
[ As far as I am aware there is NO specific law relating to calibres/power/loads when shooting fox. There are general laws relating to cruelty which means you would need to use adequate power to deal with them humanely.Anyone else got anything to add... Cheers That is bang on, and correct. You may shoot a fox with whatever calibre rifle or shotgun you wish as you will not be breaking the law BUT if you cause unnecessary suffering to the fox there exists a whole world of legislation purposely designed to make your life a living hell. John A while back there was a thread on this, started as I recollect by Big Noel. He traps urban foxes and applied for a variation for a .410 shot pistol. It was flatly refused and he was told to use sub-12 air-rifle. This is another area where the FEO calls the shots. (Sorry!). A lot of people posted in to say they had had the same experience. Isn't possession of a 22lr pistol illegal? That's why British Olympic shooters have to go abroad to practise. There will need to be special legislation to allow 22lr pistol shooting in the 2012 Olympics. Ric Ric .22lr pistols are Legal in certain circumstances (as are other calibre pistols), primarily Humane dispatch and slaughtering. If you can justify it you can have it. Target Shooting is not deemed justifiable! Quote Link to post

Target Shooting is not deemed justifiable! Bugger. I was just trying to justify my .700 Nitro Express Pistol as a humane dispatch tool. Do you think I may get a no on this? After all, it will kill anything that moves, if not humanely then at least quickly. Elephant in musk? Rhino on the charge? Hippopotopotopopamus? Ah well. One can but dream . . . Quote Link to post
