border terrier

Recommended Posts

right happy days are amoung us, i've manage to convince me missus to let me get a terrier, but she said she only likes the border terrier

i dont mind i like either these or patt's or border X patt, something along the lines of.

what i after is a bit of info,

1) what the like to mark for the ferrets

2) can they be used instead of nets (or would u stick with lurcher type for that)

3)how brainy they (to train for marking(this being me 1st terrier))

4)they prone to any illness?

5) what sex would ya prefer or is this personnal?

look forward to your SENSIBLE comment

cheers

two of the lads in our shoot have borders, they mark, bush and do everything else a terrier should be doing :boxing:

they can be slow to mature as mentioned above.

they will not replace a lurcher/whippet when ferreting( just not quick enough on the straight!!

as a single dog i prefer a dog but that is personal preferance.

i have also seen some very nice borderxlakies.

turk , i keep and work borders, they both hunt like little hounds, and the dog i use with a mate who,s a deer stalker, he,ll track wounded beasties, not that he misses many, they are very biddable, and clever, we rat and they are as sharp as any terrier, and to ground , well they can be hard, full on, they will catch on top and have no fear of long legged furry things in cover, and bring out of water, they are not everyones cup of tea, they dont come on as quick as others, but then its not a bad thing, i dont take mine ferreting, for me thats a job for longs legs, there seems to be far to many lads on here quick to slate them with out much expirience of them, they have had bad press down to puppy pedlars and the kennel club, being sold for silly money, but now there is a good few enthusiast bringing back the working strain and about time, if you like them try one.

i would,nt call it headstrong, more singleminded determination, but biddable,my bitch started to come on to work at 10mths, bushing and ratting, and went to ground on her own at 14mths, my dog flew to ground at 12mths, their all different, bring them on with others like all pups and they,ll learn quicker, stuff the show people by breeding worker to worker, if your that way inclined you can still register them with the kc, its a good way of seeing your bloodlines, getting them to bring back stuff would be the same way as any other dog, basic training,
