irishnut 297
seen a beagle x whippet today, was out on an early morning bunny bash after work, was on some new permission, on land next to it a young lad of 15 or 16 was on with it, after rabbits too, dog was 1/4 beagle, 3/4 whippet, the lad had 2 rabbits in his bag, that wee dog was in and out of light brush really well still unslipped, then i seen him slipped, straight at a sitter, 5 yards from the rabbit it upped and ran straight for the dog, kamakazi rabbit, ace looking little dog, amazingly fast. i liked it alot, but beagle in whippet isn't right for me, Quote Link to post

Almost all types if bred right will do that to some extent. Obviously a safe bet is going with a terrier blooded lurcher. If i was you i would be asking myself what else i require of the dog? Hunt cover like a terrier or less energetically (like sighthoundy types), big dog or small (depending on the land etc), high endurance for run after run after run or speed merchant that cant take as many hard runs, even coat type and feet? loads more to consider in blood than just wheather it will be able to catch and kill fox and rabbit. Hope this helps abit more Quote Link to post
irishnut 297
i have a springer and a terrier, so my main concern is speed and a bit of intelligence Quote Link to post
micheal 0
back in the 90s we used to do a lot of lamping, and we always used a saluki x for fox one season had 23 fox with him,Now hand on heart who caught that nu in 1 season??? most lads go on about bullxs they dont have the stamina to run all night on rabbit and fox pre the ban of coarse,To many issues with this cross of dog.
