davyt63 1,845
Last time I was out ferreting we were stopped by the police and they asked if we do any lamping, i said yeah, and he said if i'm going to be out lamping ring them and let them know where i will be and they will give me a reference number so if any reports come in from concerned members of the public etc etc they know it will be me. might be worth cinsidering mate Oh and i would of took the shot. me tinks that you are referring to a U.R.N unique, reference, number. AKA log number. this i do on certain permissions, also its handy to give them your mobile. to save them a trip out to frighten the be Jesus!! out of you regards davy Quote Link to post
jackinbox99 41
Tough one really. I probably wouldnt have taken the shot, but i also wouldnt have wandered up to the police officer. If they wanted to speak to me they would have to walk in the field or call out to me. Id have just sat there & waited to see if they wanted anything or not. Does get your heart going a bit tho doesnt it? Ive had the police helicopter hovering above me when ive been lying in a field before stalking bunnies. Im sure it was only looking about for something or someone else, but I wasnt going to hang about to find out! At least you know noone has reported you, and it was just her spotting the lamp. hughes_jh 0
Hi Tony, I would have done exactly the same as you. Even if it had of been a casual bystander I would have declined the shot. All you need is a few complaints (even though you are perfectly within your rights) and people start getting arsey By the way, how come you can't discharge your gun without firing it? Any gun I've ever owned could always be discharged by pulling back the cocking mechanism (this includes underlevers, break barrels and pcp) and pulling the trigger then slowly returning the cocking mechanism back to its resting position. I could have done that, but knowing my memory, I'd have forgotten there would still be one up the pipe and put a second pellet in My main reason though was to let the police know it was in a safe state IE uncocked and unloaded. andy s410c 61
I was stopped last Thursday P for the first time EVER on my permission. The helicopter was a mile or so away in the valley so i had a feeling i would have a "visit".Just as i crossed the road(rimfire unloaded, bolt in holster & gun in bag) into the bottom quarry after having a mooch in the top quarry the van pulled up. The officer was spot on,he was a shooter himself we ended up talking for 10 mins over various guns, calibre & ferreting which he also did.All paperwork was checked & i was on my way into the quarry. The one thing i've learnt tho is to phone the police to let them know where & when i'll be shooting in the future .It's human nature is suppose"i've never been stopped before" but there's a first time for everything . Personally i would'nt have taken the shot with the police present. Quote Link to post
