All round Shotgun

Hi,

Can anyone recommend an all round shotgun, for wildfowling, rough shooting and pigeon shooting?

One that can be picked up second hand?

a good reliable 12g u/o with 1/2 & 1/4 choke will do the job 28" barrels..the quality & cost is upto you..get the feel of dozens before you choose.

Almost any semi (not a Hatsan) with a 3inch or better chamber is what you need for your list!

 

12g, 28" barrel and multichoke!

Whats wrong with the hatsan, I and several other shooting mates use if as a multi-purpose gun from clays to birds to rabbits.

best going for a beretta or benelli semi auto, reliable and do the job in my opinion. i have a beretta synthetic for all me rough stuff, reliable work horse of my guns.

Remington 870 12g pump.

 

Dozens of barrels: short to long, rifled to smooth.

A 870 can function as a rifle (mounted with a scope) on large game at about 100 yds using rifled slugs out of a smooth barrel or sabot slugs from rifled barrel.

 

Tons of different barrel lenghts available as are chokes, stocks, extended magazines, pistol grips, speed feeders, etc...

 

Sturdy enough to pole a boat through mud/sea ice then can be used to club baby seals.

 

It ain't pretty, but a lot of cops and military depend upon them.

Gets my vote too, ive got one. Ideal for anything really, will cycle small 21g clay rounds as well as 3 inch ones. Multichoke, low recoil, 3 shots and holds its value extremely well. Ive had mine for years now and never had any problems.

 

All depends really how much you are looking to spend and what you like the feel of. Get down a few shops and try a few guns out.

As already said - any steel proofed 3" semi auto, preferably with a synthetic stock IMO.

Loads out there to choose from, new and used, depending on your budget.

The semi automatics, I remember they were changed to 3 shots only. Is this still the case?

Semi`s and pumps are restricted to 3 shots only on an SGC. (Thats 1 in the chamber and 2 in the mag) If you have a firearms license, you can get unrestricted versions of the shotguns which normally have 5 shots, although you can get extended mags to shoot upto 12 shots!

 

Whether Beretta is the best make is a matter of personal opinion really.

Get a benelli m2.

Simple, reliable, rugged, long warranty. Wont be disssapointed.

Same price for 3 shot as a multi shot (iv got an 8 shot), get 5 chokes with it too and can get whatever barrel length you want.

Had mine for 2 years and use it alot, never needed to strip it to clean it, just pull a bore snake through it, cant do that with a berreta.
