higgins 75
This thread was brought about through the tail docking thread,i currently own a Border/lakeland x Nuttall as yet untried, unproven and untested, and as i said in the tail docking thread it wouldn't matter to me in the end as long as a terrier can work his fox the same way as a docked terrier, that in my eyes is still a worling terier, all that has changed is the law.The terrier i have has prick(ed) ears but still seems as game as any,i just want to know how many genuine terrier lads have good digging terriers with prick ears that can do the job,as i'm sure that prick ears are the discrimation of a good working terrier or fashion in the show ring, there must be a few good woking terriers that would never win in the ring, but all that matters to their owners is that they work, Higgins. longdog13 36
I could be wrong but i think it's more of a practical thing, ie dogs with full drop ears are not as likely to have their ear canal fill up with dirt etc. Quote Link to post

When a Pup is in the Litter for you to view, the only thing you can realistically go for is the one that catches your Eye. Most times in the hour or so or whatever you are there to pick a Pup, you go for the most active and forward and, with some, the closest to the 'type' you have a prefernce for. A Bow Legged prick Eared Pup isn't going to catch your Eye, other than to think shit I don't want that one! It isn't until somebody gets left with that Pup and it turns out to be a decent digging Terrier, that the Ears don't become an issue with anyone. If anyone says they would go to a well bred Litter and pick a Pup, no matter what was wrong with it, I would strongly suggest they are not being truthful! Given the choice, in a full Litter, of a non prick Eared Pup and a prick Eared one....guess what I would pick. Given the choice between a real nice showy adult that's done a bit and a prick Eared well worked and proven adult with bow Legs, then the Ears and Legs Terrier would get my vote.......massive difference.
