I know these dogs are used to flush rabbits and game birds but would it be possible to also train one to retrive as well?

The Mrs will not have a spaniel and neither of us want a lab, she mentioned a red setter but im not sure we both like beagles though

They are excellent hunters and flushes of game and allot of lads shoot vermin over them, but they are very hard mouthed and you would be lucky to get them to do anything but hunt in the field as when they get a scent they go deaf on you, they can also get away from you while following a scent.

As with every thing though if you put in the time you can do wonders.

not exactly a bushing dog, more of a scenting hound, bred to stick to the quarry without distraction.

I think ye would be better off with a spaniel.
