micky 3,325
TO CATCH THAT AMOUNT OF RABBITTS [they are not hard rabbitts],go down to the midlands ,you will run hard and less rabbitts.just because some people haven,t caught as much as others dosent mean they have a lesser dog ,somtimes they havsnt had the oppotunitey to good land and more game,I HAVE AND I KNOW THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN HARD AND EASY GAME TO CATCH. very true some rabbits are harder to catch especialy here in the midlands, in fact anywhere in the country on arrable land with thin hedges can be vert difcult to catch. but make no mistake hawcroft taking that 100 with 2 dogs was no walk in the park. what do class as easy land? my dogs done well on arable, the only place i thought was differrent was around Shepshed/whitwick were it was grass fields and stone walls, the rabbits came off the fields very sharpish, but if the dog took a bend out them at the walls, it was usually job done. Endgame 68
whats the biggest catch in one night, and no adding a few on for good luck!! ON THE RIGHT GROUND,WITH THE RIGHT WEATHER CONDITIONS & BEFORE THE RABBITS BECOME WISE 2 THE LAMP ANY HALF DECENT& FIT LURCHER CAN TAKE A LOT OF RABBITS ON THE NITE. WHAT ANY EXPERIENCED DOG MAN SHOULD KNOW IS HOW MANY RABBITS U CAN CARRY ON THE NITE & THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TAKES 2 SKIN & PREPARE THEM BE IT THAT NITE OR NEXT DAY. I GOT STOPPED ON WAY HOME WITH 26 RABBITS BY THE POLICE ONCE. OBVIOUSLY DIDNT BELIEVE THAT MY DOG HAD CAUGHT THEM IN LAMP.CALLED IN A POLICE VAN WHICH I SAT IN WITH DOG,WHILST THEY SEARCHED MY VAN 4 FIREARMS.THEN SENT ME ON MY WAY WITH A HORTI & NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY. sounder79 80
Cheers Bird, agree with most of what you say, ground does help alot, your not going to get 30 rabbits on a golf course..and you certainly cant catch big bags if theres not the rabbits to catch, that why we travelled..but, Ive took lads from different parts of the country and they came back with a lot less that on the same ground we were getting a lot more. Even on good ground the rabbits dont just jump into your gamebag. I remember a lad from Durham carrying his dog back to the car, and calling us mad for the way were were grafting ours. Locally at the time Im speaking of, there were a lot of teams of lads going out with dogs lamping, Ive lamped places where Ive seen 2, 3 or 4 other sets of lamps flashing about. These other lads were getting good hauls, but couldnt touch the numbers we were getting. If it were all to do with the ground, all the dogs up here would have taken these sort of numbers..There are less than 10 dogs where I come from that have taken over 40 rabbits in one night.. So yes, totally agree its good ground for numbers, but, also a good dog..one without the other, and you wont get the really big bags. And dont forget, these dogs didnt just kill rabbits, weve lamped massive bags before, and on the way home parked up till it broke light so we could race, and kill some hares. you wana check your books again boy, come off the stage now with your 216 in a night, you wouldnt get that with a pair a cheetahs! he he he hup! Dont have to look at books matie, check a previous post; "It wasnt beaten where I live matie.. and had to ammend it, it was 216 with 3 dogs..got wrong off Kevin, in my book for some reason I put 213 too, but the scores that Yella and Sophie got are the same, it was the third dog Jack that got 55" Thanks for pointing it out though, well done you Quote Link to post
