bird dogs?

Recommended Posts

me the dogs and the ferrets enjoyed a couple of hours ferreting this morning even though it rained and hailed here in sunny suffolk ! the dogs and ferrets all worked well and i,v got rabbit pie ! on the way back to the van my 9 year old beddy/whippet grabbed hold of a partridge , she has never done this before although she has flushed many phesants anyway she did,nt hold on to it for long and away it flew ! this made me think about "bird dogs " anyone out there own a dog that catches birds on a regular basis , if so what cross ?

my beddy/grey has picked a few partidge up on the lamp this season so far, and a pheasent in daytime a few month ago.

when i go for a mooch with my puppy its a salukie bull greyhound and only 5months i take a catapult with me and shoot pheasents pigeons and he will pick them up and shake them about to make sure their dead its a good bit of sport and good for the puppy

My bitsa bitch has caught a fair few birds, pheasants both airbourne and in cover, a few crows and a magpie. Our jrtxwhippet has had a few pheasants and even the terrier once. We dont go out looking for them and avoid the keepered areas after release. im always pretty concious of how much work has gone into rearing them but i dont mind the dogs grabbing the odd wild bird when they get the chance. i have more pics but cant find them on the PC right now. Dont have many partridge round here but im sure she' be happy to give them a try!

my lurcher has had 3 woodcock this season took them in their seats in longish grass

I do quite a bit of woodcock hunting with springers and they've yet to catch one (not that I would want them to but they see a lot of them) - hats off to that lurcher of yours fella, very impressive.
