FOXHUNTER 5,021
Ratcherman was on the phone to a farmer last night and he mentioned we hadnt been for a while and could we have a look round to shoot some rabbits and hares. Not wishing to disappoint him we arrived around 7pm . Although the moon is nearly full , dark rain clouds appeared and a slight drizzle which actually helped our cause. The fields were like paddy fields absolutely soaking but we persevered and managed to bag a few. There are plenty hares on this ground so we took what we needed and left the rest for future sorties. I actually managed to drain my Lithium Ion battery , it lasted about 5 hours. A very enjoyable nights lamping mate , pity that fox didnt play ball though Looking forward to the stalking next weekend ....... Quote Link to post

Colster 1
im sure its illegal to shoot hares at night, they are classed as game. No it isn't, that only applies to Mountain Hares (should be white by this time of year)...most shooters will however only shoot what they can eat. One farm I shoot on has a particular problem with hares so we shoot them there but tend to leave them everywhere else. Quote Link to post

zipdog 0
Under the Hares Act 1848, and Hares (Scotland) Act 1848 it is an offence for 'anyone to use any firearm or gun of any description at night for the purpose of killing game'. This is an additional offence to night poaching where game is being shot during the night which begins one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise. The Ground Game Act (as amended) and The Agricultural (Scotland) Act 1948, appear to override the prohibition on night shooting of hares by occupiers or persons authorised under the Acts. seen as there are 2 acts that say you cant and only one that appears to overide it i would class it as illegal. common know law you cant shoot game after sunset, hares are game. also under the 1948 act you have to have evidence that the hares are causing damage soley. mikeyboy 7
no its not my business but it really makes me sad to see all those hares shot. such a good animal to end up like that. and to shoot that many aswell Quote Link to post
