SMK XS20 & Titan XS spring

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow springers :)

I recently purchased a Smk XS20 and after a few tins and reading some forum posts, I decided to take her apart for a little TLC.

upon inspection the spring itself was already bent!!! So I ordered a nice new Titan XS spring and set about cutting it to size and compressing/polishing the ends which was a lot easier than I thought.

Now upon installation into the piston I found the spring was a super tight fit, She fires great but makes a terrible grinding noise when cocking. :(

Has anyone else found this??? Ive checked the packaging and its the right spring!!! (hw95) arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Any advice would be greatly apreciated, Thanks.

no offence but you might aswell hit yourself in the head with the gun because sooner or later the stock will break and do it for you titan springs imo are just as bad as oxsprings not worth a shite it will make your gun self destruct just make sure it doesnt take your head off in the process or bend the barrel :whistling:

As an infrequent visitor to this site, I hate to have to disagree with Rex.

I have the same gun which has had a Titan spring in it for 2 years & it shoots as strong & smooth as the first day I put it in there.

Putting out 11.7 fpe & whacking 45 yd spinners pretty constantly. Anything beyond that is less consistent but more to do with the limitations of a springer, the .22 caliber & the fact I'm a pretty average shot.

I don't doubt you had to lop a few coils of that spring to get it down to sub 12 fpe as an uncropped spring would produce around 16 fpe.

It's known that different runs or years of manufacture provide some differing tollerences on both the XS20 & XS19's

so the spring that fits mine may not fit yours.

Have a look at:-

If you can measure the dimensions of your existing spring, you could find that either of these variations on the Maccari Tarantula spring might work for you. Ignore the length & number of coils cos you're going to have to crop the spring anyway. The dimensions are mentioned on the site. Suspect the E9870 might be right for you.

Whilst you're paying the postage, get yourself a much better quality piston seal

Might I also suggest a more enlightened web forum, where you may well get a more balanced view
