zini 1,939
Hi lads and lasses, I got a phone call from Reggaeman today informing me that his car was playing up so he couldn’t come up to shoot with me today, I was gutted, as was he but that’s life and it happens to us all at some time so I fully understood his predicament and I hope him all the best in getting it fixed. After the bad news, no fault of the lads I decided to take my youngest son Dylan out and my Patterdale Zin for a shoot around my permission We left at about 1000hrs and return home just before 1700hrs when it was dark. I left the BSA R10 at home and decided to take the FX Verminator out for a shoot and see just how good it could be at taking vermin. DID IT DESERVE ITS NAME, THE VERMINATOR? The weather was really nice today with bright sunshine and the vermin were out in their drones. I got tonnes of brilliant footage today for my DVD and even ended up taking 2 daytime bunnies on cam with the help of my terrier with one of them, due to the .177 pellet drilling straight though the bunnies head causing it to run 5 or 6 metres before it slowed down and realised that it was missing some brain cells. The terrier soon caught up with it and did his job in his usual effective way. I think Reggaeman will appreciate watching Zin getting up to his old tricks. A rabbit this time mate though, not you know what LOL. The footage is pretty cool I think. The DVD will now be out in Jan 10. Get your orders in to me ASAP via private message. I have also got a deal with the local gun shop and they are going to sell it in their shop to see how it does. Keep your fingers crossed please for me. We ended up with: 2 rabbits 6 Squizzers 4 Woodies 1 Collard dove. You will see from the photos that the woodies were plucked and breasted and will be my meal very soon. Regards Zini. sibaldib 6
Great shooting Zini. If you carry on with these videos, you could be costing me a lot of money soon, as I really like what I am seeing and hearing about the Verminator. The Bisley Magnums obviously suit the gun, but do you have much of a problem with holdover on the longer shots, due to the pellet weight? Looking forward to the DVD. Cheers Sib Quote Link to post
kev1986 0
i wouldnt get to carried away about the gun have a look at his later thread about it , the seals have gone could just be a lemon from the factory like but as he says ya confidence aint there no more Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Hi all, Kev in reply to your questions friend, I still have the .22 calibre BSA R10 and I will never sell it. Its top quality mate and a keeper for life None of my current rifles are FAC rifles. I only use sub 12 FP rifles as I have no reason to use a FAC air rifle. I find that I can hit vermin consistently and cleanly out to 55 metres on a windless day with my sub 12 FP .22 calibre BSA R10 rifle, so dont see the point in up grading to FAC. I know blokes that have FAC air rifles and have trouble hitting quarry cleanly at 50 metres. It depends on the skill of the shooter in my opinion friend. Sib, Regarding the Verminator mate, I have had a problem with it already. It is leaking air from the inlet valve so is going back to the gun shop tomorrow. As you can see the rifle is accurate as hell but I have lost my confidence in the rifle for breaking so quickly. Because I shoot as much as I do I need an accurate reliable rifle. I think Im either going to ask for a totally new Verminator or exchange it for a brand new Weihrauch HW100T in .22 calibre as the shop as one in already. No Sib I dont have any problem with holdover in either my .22 rifle or the Verminator. I always use a mil dot reticule and do the following thing when I first zero my scope / gun combo: 1. Zero the rifle / scope bang on so its putting pellet on top of pellet or hitting a drawing pin every time at 30 metres. I always use 30 metres in what ever calibre I use. I normally use x 10 magnification to shoot but x 16 to get my initial accurate zero. 2. I then put my magnification down to x10 and walk my rifle and rest 5 metres forwards and shoot at the bull looking to see where the pellet impacts on the target in retrospect to my mil dot reticule. I note this on my trajectory range card. Ive attached a copy for you to see. 3. I do this until I get to 10 metres from the target, which normally ends up being back on the cross hair due to it being my point 1 zero and 30 metres being the point 2 zero. 4. I then do the same but walk backwards from 30 metres to 55 metres always noting the impact point on my reticule. 5. I find that at 55 metres with my R10 in .22 I dont have to shoot more than 4.5 mil dots hold over. 6. I then memorise the holdover points and bobs your uncle. 7. Please only try these far ranges though if your own shooting is up to it as it will result in wounding and frustration on your part. Regards Zini Zini, Thanks for the very comprehensive reply and advice given. I had already heard about a couple of issues with the Verminator on other forums but had dismissed them as one-offs and was being swayed by the looks and accuracy of the gun. Oh well - back to my original choice between the HW100TK and an AA S510 - decisions, decisions! Still cannot decide about calibre though - most of my shooting will be rabbits out to 40-45yds and if I can get the holdover spot on, I'm veering towards the .22 calibre I will use your method for setting up my new rifle as it seems a well tried and tested method that works well for you. Thanks again. Sib Quote Link to post
zini 1,939
Hi Kev, Yes I always shoot in the day at x 10 magnification if possible. On some occasions i have no choice but to drop down to x 6 if the vermin is really close. At night with the Verminator I would of kept at x 10 but dropped down if need be to x 4. I just find x 10 good for me and it works well with my mil dots. I used to use a BSA Lightning Kev myself, in fact I've had the Lightning and XL model. I always used Crossman Accupels, now Webley Accupels, but each barrel has its own favourite. They would be a good starter to try though. Zak ref your question friend, I'd say for accuracy and pointability the Verminator is second to none, but because mine has let me down so quickly I’d have to say no its not worth the money. Maybe I'm an unlucky person and have bought a faulty rifle which may have been the only one in the batch I don’t know. If mine had not broken I’d of answered you saying yes they are worth it. The reason i wanted it was for shooting from my vehicle at night mainly bunny bashing. Its perfect for that. Ill keep you all informed of what happens next. Zini Quote Link to post
