Marksman 934
After putting it off for a while and buying off other people as I thought it would be "easier" I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy a net making kit. It's one of the Deben ones found on ebay that I managed to nab for a tenner! I thought f**k it....if I cant do it then it's just a tenner. Well what do you know....I managed to make one! I copied off one of my existing hemp nets it being 7 meshes across by 18 deep. The big test and sense of achievement will come when I actually "net" something in it. It might be a daft question to those in the know but if I wanted to make a bigger net do I just knit more onto the ring?? Here it is anyway.....thanks for looking Darryl Quote Link to post
Moe 108
hope this helps start with your normal line on your ring i.e 9 loops then on youre second line put youre first loop onthen when you put the second loop on and stitch another loop onto the same one carry on across the line till you get to the second last loop and do the same again keep doing this on each line till you get the width you want then depending on how long you want youre not either carry onwith the amount of loops youre at i.e15 till you get youre length then start to reduce youre net by taking in both together the second and third loop and thethird and second last loop on each row till you get to the amount of loops you started with and tie onto ring good look Quote Link to post

ferreterni 29
Have a close look at the meshes on some of your shaped nets. As moe says, start with 9 or 10 on the ring then add an extra mesh on the end of a few rows until you get it the width you want, then knit. Whenever you are coming back down to the ring again, knit two meshes into one. Shaping them also makes your roll of twine go further. Good on you for making your own, it gets addictive. That rayon twine is nice to work with too, has a natural feel to it. atb with the nets, and if I can help at all, feel free to pm me, and I will do my best to help. Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
my uncle has just started making them the other day hes having trouble keeping the net tight to the rings any tips or just practice? I know I'm just learning mate, I'm on to my 3rd net now and the way I found was not to pull the mesh board but pull the twine instead. If you pull the mesh board it tends to slacken the twine on the rings Hope this helps Darryl Quote Link to post
John Keswick 119
I believe there was a video kicking about somewhere on here about net making, made by two former dodgy characters off of this site. Quote Link to post

Marksman 934
fair play to you mate, thinking of having a go myself,on a scale of 1 to 10,how difficult would you say it is(honestly lol) Honestly when I first started I'd say a 9-10, Now that I'm sort of getting the hang of it, 6-7 although I still sometimes make mistakes doing the rings and find myself going back on myself, but as with everything mate I'm sure it will come with experience Darryl Quote Link to post
