Brimmer 220
Didnt write up day 11, got a decent bag, but just the same old stuff. Rain, Ferrets, Dogs, Dozy old chap. ferrets in hole, bolt out dog catch, job done. Oh we got the first blacky of the year. Today we took the trusty Honda steed out for another mission, with a few modifications. The trailer we take the bike around on was just too much for the little 350 quad to drag around the land, so a rabbit box on the back, and a tray on the front rack for junk was decided on. (my carpentry skills are at best ok!) The old feller gets a backie now, whilst the hounds run alongside.(most of the time!) There are bars on racks inside the box for rabbits to hang on, letting them cool down, and stiffen up out of the wet weather. (Nothing worse than rabbits pissed through and crumpled!) I have now extra energy to waste for digging! Not carrying anything around anymore is like living in a dream world! All five ferrets were on fire, especially Billy Bob the Fang and his brother. Each one of them, being small hobs were dragged from the warrens attached to the rabbit on seperate occasions, Billy Bob for 6 yrds before the dog took a hold, (nearly got that one on the flashcorder, but switched it off to early.) And his brother for 2 yrds, again before the dog took hold. They Pair of them nearly stopped the rabbit above ground on there own. Never seen anything like it before, propper little grafters! All the dogs could not be faulted today, the old dog at near 10 yrs old put in a few spirited kills after long runs, but the two young dogs have finally come of age. They are leathal. They are turning into machines with the graft. They probs had 85% of the bag today on there own backs. At 3.30 pm, they wre still killing, after a whole days running and hunting up. This is why we use the collie crosses. The old feller was not so well at the end of the day when we finally got off at dusk. Hope I still have as much go about me at 70 yrs. The cold and him being a bit ill Got the better of him at the end of the day. Today was a good day, got a snap of me and the old chap together for once. Timer on the camera balanced on the back of the bike. Lets see what the weekend brings. Quote Link to post

Tiercel 6,986
John, Another excellent write up, I hope your dad is well recovered by now. I have a question to ask, just out of curiosity. I have followed your posts because they are well written and you are an intelligent person who is not seeking to boast. Sorry I digress, here is the question. Does the size of the bag affect your enjoyment of the days sport? After catching a lot of rabbits every time you go out would a day where you caught say 5 rabbits detract from the day for you? I think I know the answer, but we all know what thought did. John-B 4
Another top result, gonna be no rabbits left in the UK if you keep going Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
John, Another excellent write up, I hope your dad is well recovered by now. Sorry I digress, here is the question. Does the size of the bag affect your enjoyment of the days sport? After catching a lot of rabbits every time you go out would a day where you caught say 5 rabbits detract from the day for you? I think I know the answer, but we all know what thought did. TC Hi Tiercel, hows it going? Thought about this overnight, so edited and simplified it! If there's only 5 rabbits to catch on a day out, then I'd enjoy catching 5 rabbits. As long as all the animals in the team give it 100%. (including myself!) If any of team members are not giving 100% then the day becomes less enjoyable. The only thing I'd be bothered about only getting a few rabbits, would be the dogs and ferrets. Without the heavy and regular work, would never get them 'match fit'. The only true way of making an animal, is the experience and workout gained by working them to their limits. Edited November 28, 2009 by Brimmer Quote Link to post
