Training a lurcher for lamping?

Recommended Posts

How do you train your dog to hunt while lamping?

My bedlington/whippet is just over a year old now and will take rabbits during the day, but out at night with the lamp doesn't get what to do. How do i get her to run down the beam, or at least take notice of whats in the beam?

I've read that one of the best ways is to take her lamping with a more experienced dog, but theres no'one that i know of to ask, so im on me own with the training.

Where do i start?????

I just been out, crap weather down here in Hampshire at the moment though. I done as advised, with her on the lead walking upto a sitter in the beam. As soon as it bolted i let her go and bang, strike one! :-)

Walked on a few more yards and saw another sitters eyes glowing in the light so we headed over to that one, same routine, we got close, it bolted and i let her run it down. 2 rabbits in 10 minutes.

Im well pleased!!!

Thanks for your tips ;)

Andy
