peefa 0
Got to be honest agree with others on this one you should not speed. So many people dying on the roads these days its unreal.
JohnGalway 1,043
dont speed then. Just what I was gonna say. I once turned right where I shouldn't have, traffic corps car around the corner Bagged, fined and pointed , good enough for me, lesson learned.
comanche 3,057
Too true .Break the Law and expect to pay the price ...But .I got my first speeding fine a couple of months back . 48mph in a 40 limit on a straight bit of downhill road in a virtually uninhabited area. When I first hit the roads in 1975 this stretch was considered safe enough for a National speed limit of 60 mph .So what's changed . Ah yes modern cars and motorbikes have better brakes and lots of safety features so obviously they need to be slowed down Along comes a Government money making schemer who puts a camera there and basically charges a toll from anyone who slips over what is a very unaturally low speed limit for that stretch of road . So there I was nicked by a robot with no realistic right of reply. I've driven motorbikes ,cars and vans since 1975 without a single insurance claim against me or a single licence point. It was a fair cop though . I'd broken the law and duly sent me old green licence off to have 3 points biro'ed in along with a £60 cheque . On the day I recieved my licence back it was in the news that some scumbag had scarred a woman for life and been let off with a warning ...
Malt 379
You shouldn't speed but... I think the current speed limit is too low, especially on the motorway. The 70mph limit was put in place when 70mph was about the safe limit of the average car. Modern cars are safe at speeds 10-20 mph faster than that. IMO speed in itself doesn't kill, it drivers who speed in the wrong places at the wrong times that kill in accidents where speed is a factor. Most of the time speed's got nothing to do with the cause of an accident, it's down to bad/careless/dangerous driving. I'm in favour of varible speed limits that can change according to the time, traffic and road conditions. I'm all for 30/40mph limits being strictly enforced though. There should be a speed camera outside every school and play area instead of on wide open safe stretches of motorway. Not only that. but has anyone else noticed a drastic drop in the amount of police patrol cars you see on the motorways since the introduction of cameras? Anybody'd think that speeding was the only illegal activity that happened on the roads. I don't think it's any coincidence that these days you see more people undertaking, tailgating and failing to indicate on the motorways...
