Mentoring for .22LR

Recommended Posts

I sent off my FAC and spoke to my FEO today. I asked if the land I shoot on has already been passed and he said that it had but has an endorsement on it for experienced shooters only.

I have to supply a letter from someone who I have gone shooting with on it who is happy to vouch for me or I have to have a mentor condition. I have been on it with one of this forums members but not sure that it would be enough to count.

Anyone else had this?

Very close, I was recently aproached by someone needing a letter or mentoring for the .17HMR.

I agreed to help with the letter, but only on the basis we did it right, so I took him up to my club to be checked out by the RCO and other officials, and then a few weeks of hunting trips out.

Job done, he actually called me yesterday to say his FAC had just arrived!

Thanks for that. I had heard of mentoring for deer but not for this.

It does seem rather excessive, it's a 22 for crying out loud.... <sigh>

my fao wanted me to have a mentor for fac air and i`ve been shooting all my life held a shotgun cert for 20 years been a gamekeeper and done wildlife management courses run my own pest control buisiness and own my own land :icon_eek::clapper:

he will be knocking on my door at 10.30 to go and check my plot for parcing fac air if he doesant parce it i`ve got to start bothering my customers as he is insisting that even tho i want it on open for my work i have to have a named piece of land, maybe he should read the home office guide where it clearly states you dont, honestly i am on the verge of complaining it has been made so difficult for me it a joke :censored:

That's interesting trapperman, where exactly in the Home Office guidelines does it state you don't need to name land to shoot on to submit with your fac application. I thought that only applied to stalking and deer calibers where "bookings" for paid stalking would suffice. I would be most interested to know.

thats section 13.10, it also states proffessional pest control another exemtion is reffered to in section 13.20

and 13.6 states that you may require a firearm for reasons of your profession, which is the basis of my application as i am a pest controler

anyway it matters not as hes just parced my holding for fac air

bloody hell lads i cant believe the trouble some of you have, iv just applied for a first grant of a fac for .22lr, .17hmr and .22cf, ive spoke to my feo on the phone and he says as long as my land passes there will be no problems, i even asked if i would be given a mentoring condition for the .22cf and he said no they only issue mentoring conditions for deer, ive only had my sgc for about 8 months, although i have done a basc rifle awareness course which has gone in my favour, of course the ticket hasnt yet arrived this is just what im being told got my interview next week so i'll keep you posted

best regards adam

I'll have to try and get some more land

this mentoring thing is pissing me right off. its just a made up law the police have got into there heads. i think if your granted a rifle you should be able to shoot it on your own.

what i cant understand about this and tell me if i have got it wrong.

is your flo has said you need a letter off someone else who shoots to say your safe to shoot the land you have put forward ?

otherwise you have to have mentoring ?

what i find very wrong is the flo told you the land is past for 22lr but only to someone who has shot rifles for years ? so that mean they have open ticket ?

if not the land is past or it isnt !

pulling the wool over your eyes

Most FEO's have little or NO experience of firearms at all, if they did then they would have a bit more common sense on firearms applications. My local FEO told me i couldn't have a 25-06 for shooting deer.....fine for fox but not deer....could have a .243 though! I politely told him that they are very similar and he needs to get his facts right! If not i would just have to go buy another rifle and that would be one more for the police to worry about!! Bloody cockhead of a bloke, i've had my ticket for 10 years and 3 different police forces and he is the first to give me grief over my rifles. I can only shoot foxes when i'm deer stalking on my ticket :wallbash::wallbash: Good job i'm changing forces again when i move next week so that will be getting changed!

A bit of real world training would help these damned hitlerites, more people should complain about how they get treated by FEO's but most won't for fear of jepordising their application!

challenge what you are being told by these idiots, just make sure you are right before you do 8)

when my fao was questioning me on the ballistics of the two rimfires i applyed for at first, i thought good because i`ve been swatting up on this i said that the .17 hmr has around 80 ftlbs energy at 200 yards he just laughed and said i`ve got a .17 and i can tell you it has no more than 6 ftlbs at 150 yards :icon_eek: i also had to correct him about the 50 foot from a highway thing as he thought it was 50 metres but he admitted that he wasnt sure :clapper:
