zini 1,939
Ferrit, The HW77 would be my choice. They are deadly bunny bashers in the right hands, with accuracy that you wont be able to shoot to mate. There is a massive comparison between the two rifles. A HW77 should never be even thought about in the same class as a Lightning really. The Lightning though a good gun in its own right is no match for the HW77in any department apart for being lighter and easier to carry. The HW77 is a total legend and in the late 1980’s to early 1990’s the HW77 ruled the airgun world along with the HW80 when it came to accuracy and field performance. Even a well maintained HW77 not even tuned today will hammer most of the 2009 manufactured spring guns on the market less for a hand full. I hope this helps you mate Zini Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Ferrit, I would personally go for the .177 calibre mate. I just find the calibre better and more forgiving. Zini Quote Link to post

silentshot1 206
I have both a lightning XL .22 and a HW77 k (Venom tuned) as mentioned a couple of posts a go. The lightning is a brilliant rifle in the field, good accuracy, a strong punch delivered, easy to handle and snap in to your shoulder, easy recoil. In fact everything you could really need. That said my HW77 eclipses it by far. The accuracy and consistency is as it's reputation suggests and then some. The power is constant and the legendary weight (11 lbs. including optics, 12.51bs plus lamp), although restrictive in lightning fast shoulder presentation, actually aides longer range shots. It takes a bit of getting used to after a lighter gun but I have a lot more confidence as I know I'm not going to suffer 'barrel wobble' between pulling the trigger and the pellet exiting the barrel. The lightning is a great tool and I would recommend them to anyone.... Unless they had an HW77 as an alternative. One last thing to consider... As mentioned in my query a few posts back. The HW77 has not been tuned for YEARS and although at least 20 years old, still delivers as though new. The Lightning is 5 tears old and although used less than 30% of the time, has had two tune ups to remove 'boingyness' and the inconstancies that produces. Just my thoughts and as you sound like you've made up your mind already, but it's either write this or plan yet another route around the shoot for tomorrow morning whilst my wife watches Dr Doolittle.... Is that irony?!! Quote Link to post
