lurcher types

Recommended Posts

well , iv been shooting for quite a few years now and am warming to the idea of lurchers.But to be honest i dont have a clue !.Got a few questions . Can you get a lurcher that can run rabbits/hares/foxes or do you have to get different sized dogs for each quarry , also i like the look of the collie crosses , can they run everything and whats a good size. i might sound stupid but you've gotta start somewhere.

oh and another thing what do you feed them on , just normal dog food ?

And do you have to do much training , if so what ?

cheers :victory::victory:

If your looking for a dog to run at hare/rabbit/fox you are going need an all rounder. Some thing like greyhound deerhound or a good collie greyhound but there is lots off topics on here where yea will see lots off photos and breeding so it make it easier for you to pick the breeding you want.

Food ways if your getting a pup a good greyhound puppy mince beef or chicken but there is also good dry food out (redmills)but there are alot off people on here till yea diff because every one feeds there dogs in diff ways.

Myself at the min my dogs are on mince dryfood brown bread and what every rabbits they catch.

Training can put your head away but after few months and yea see your hard work paying off yea will love it but just get 1 dog till yea know what your doing then if yea need in a year or two get another hope this helps best off luck. :thumbs::thumbs:

collie,bull grey or a saluki bull grey will all make good allrounders.its not the size of the dog,its how game it is.obviously they need to be strong enough to take the big game down (pre ban) but i do think that saluki types can be quite ignorant but make excellent dogs when you get them there and as for training,jump,retrive and call back are about it.the more control you have the better (obviously) but as for training it to chase its prey,i dont think you will have any bother there.buy from good working stock.hope this helps mate.atvb with you dog when you get it. oh and the size depends on what you want really,the dog in my avatar pic is 24",in my eyes plenty big enough and more than racy enough for rabbits.he is a bullx.

tts is toe to shoulder im sure, my brother got a deerhound greyhound and fantastic rabbit/hare/fox dog my mate got a bull x and great all rounder just a wee bit slower than the deerhound but dose all quarry, i took the leap and got my self a wee suluki bull grey so hope all goes well, (all big quarry pre ban of course) but hope all goes well and for my training just doing sit,retreive,come and leave that all for my wee one but all the very best mate
