Big Dog222 0
Never shot either but know guys with both. Hornet over the 17HRM for fox. Moderate it and it won't be that loud it is less than a .222. Reloading ----- you won't reload the 17 HRM (rimfire) The Hornet may not be the easies to reload - I have heard it from both sides. Hornet bullet will be no cheeper than .222. The .222 will give you a bit more range, still not over powered and easy to reload. Take advice on reloading from someone who reloads the Hornet. Look on the bright side, it is an exiting place to be when you are ready to buy a new gun, do the research and you will be happy with what ever you buy because you will be sure that you have picked to suit your needs. jamie g 17
i would go for hornet over hmr anyday Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Hornet is cheaper than .222 - uses same cost bullets and less powder, so go figure! Hornet over HMR, and then I wouldn't worry on .222, it's louder, and yes it works better, but it doesn't have the nice thing about Hornet - the bullet does its 175 yards or so and then dies off quick. They are much better than a .222/223 for small permissions and times when noise and bullet carry could be a worry. Quote Link to post

Hornet-750+ft/lbs energy.. good out to about 200yds if you come across old charlie.. LD Quote Link to post
