trappa 518
Now mate. Firstly it is A LOT of fun but its not without its risks. The first time i tried it i was an inch off losing my bird. I was flying my harris successfully at plenty of quarry and she was shit hot. I like you have done plenty lamping so i decided to put two and two together and lamp with my bird, the whole night was a disaster. I had bought those little flashers from fleabay that you put on the jessies but got to my flying ground and the back had cam off so i had lost the battery. I was with my bro-in-law and his lad so i thought i would carry on regardless. The first rabbit we saw i aimed the lamp at it and the bird took off straight away, which should have been straightforward but my nephew stood between the lamp and the bird causing total darkness for a matter of seconds as the light shone on his back. When the light returned - no bird! I didnt kno whether she had landed straight away or headed towards the lights of a nearby town. We spent literally 2-3 hours looking for her all over, and in the end we found her in a hedge very near to where she chased the rabbit. I got my shit together and after that had some great nights lamping with her. My tips would be dont do what we did that first night and block the light. Get a flasher for her jessies but tape the battery bit on, they are pretty poor for staying together. Use some reflective tape to make her jessies stand out. Start her on mixy rabbits when you first go lamping, so she knows what its all about. Nearly forgot, i used a small torch to shine into my fist when calling her back, she needs something to see so she isnt flying blind. Most of this is common sense stuff , just wished i knew it when i went out that first night lamping instead of making a twat out of myself! Quote Link to post
