lofti 579
ok its been driving me insane for the past 3 months..... my dog is lightning fast..... hes dialled into the lamp but the catch rate is very poor.......... despite these places rarley being lamped and only ever by me..... the rabbits sit close to the ditch and foxes run on the sight of a lamp (dont even get to call them)..... my dog puts in up to ten runs on a bad night and the most iv caught is 5 out of 20. hes well able to run and pick them up so i think i must be at fault.... any tips on how i can give him a better chance on the rabbits.... id like to get closer to them most slips are a long way off and never on a sitting rabbit any advice will be greatly appreciated do you enter thro a noisy gate or is there unatural light behind you when your entering the feilds this can make rabbits wary.have you tried going later also as said how old is your pup? lofti Quote Link to post
fensaluki 35
It`s difficult to catch a lot of rabbits when the conditions are not right ie too much moon or not enough wind.Lamp up wind on a moonless windy night and your dog should get a good bag for you.All the best good advice. soon as th dog see's the movement of the rabbit and has been slipped. flick the lamp off and on, a second or two depending on distance. the rabbit will usualy stop running giving the dog time to get abit closer, making abit more ground takes abit of getting used to but when you have mastered it's easy Top tip this one.I've bin lamping for as long as I can remember but only learnt this trick fairly recently and it can make some great differences to your bag once you get the hang of it Quote Link to post
