where i lamp

Recommended Posts

ok its been driving me insane for the past 3 months..... my dog is lightning fast..... hes dialled into the lamp but the catch rate is very poor.......... despite these places rarley being lamped and only ever by me..... the rabbits sit close to the ditch and foxes run on the sight of a lamp (dont even get to call them).....

my dog puts in up to ten runs on a bad night and the most iv caught is 5 out of 20.

hes well able to run and pick them up so i think i must be at fault....

any tips on how i can give him a better chance on the rabbits.... id like to get closer to them most slips are a long way off and never on a sitting rabbit

any advice will be greatly appreciated :notworthy:

If the rabbits and foxes are spooky, you are definitely not the only one working it. Virgin land is hard to find in a lot of places. Try a bit further afield-and if you find some "green" rabbits keep it to yourself!

Not many dogs catch big bags of rabbits that know the game, despite some claims.

I would recomend you try a colour filter on your lamp mate. It can make a great differnce on lampshy rabbits. They dont seem to be able to pick up the coloured light aswell. It might make up them yards your looking for.

An id say by the sounds of it id have to agree with the other lads that someone else lamps your land aswell as you. atb

ye i agree with 'NOOK/ANNA' try a amber or red filter to get up closer to the rabbits i like to whip off the filter once the dog is coursing

the Bunnie and lamp with the white light

how late are you going out? if you go out quite early the rabbits tend to have not made there way out to the middle of the fields.

It`s difficult to catch a lot of rabbits when the conditions are not right ie too much moon or not enough wind.Lamp up wind on a moonless windy night and your dog should get a good bag for you.All the best

good advice. soon as th dog see's the movement of the rabbit and has been slipped. flick the lamp off and on, a second or two depending on distance. the rabbit will usualy stop running giving the dog time to get abit closer, making abit more ground  takes abit of getting used to but when you have mastered it's easy
