trapper123 7
i havent been a member of THL long, but been hunting for years, every post i have seen from fellow ferreters makes me green with envy.every pic i see is of ground sets i cant remember the last ground set i done, all my life i have done hedges and not clear hedges brambles, blackthorn nettles eveything, when i come home from a days ferreting i have cuts and stings everywhere,i am picking thorns out of my hands and legs days later just as they are going septic but i love it,i am thinking of going further afield to ask some for some new permission like up the preseli mountains.you guys are so lucky so keep the pics coming i still like looking at them even though i am  and green with envy. HAHAHA, think we have all been there mate, I used to do a lot of ferreting in amongst brambles and nettles while being cut to ribbons and stung do death, however I used to love the feeling when I got home and jumped in a nice hot bath, ground burrows, also have their disadvantages as they can quite often be deep whereas hedges tend to be quite shallow and from experience bunnies in hedges bolt a lot harder and easier, I'll stick to ny ground sets for the time being though Quote Link to post

The one 8,467
Think we all have a bit of permission like that matye but instead of netting it i just shoot them if they bolt damm site easier than netting it up Quote Link to post
MR TEA POT 1,287
I know what you mean about hedgerows all my permish as hedgerow warrens, some thick some nearly clear like this one. Others are a bit more overgrown like this one. Sorry about the big pics can't seem to get them smaller Edited November 23, 2009 by MR TEA POT Quote Link to post
lawrence 657
in the same boat mate, crawling under hawthorn hedges every week, hands in tatters. the only ground setts are play setts, with rarely anything in them. better than nothing but eh ! Quote Link to post
FightTheBan 1,147
Mate, what you need is a shotgun lol. I shotgun all my hedgerow/rough ground rabbits, using a team of ferrets to bolt them. if you wait till the cover dies back enough to see bolting rabbits it is not only great sport but very effective. I then leave all the open burys for netting and the lurchers, great set up. Quote Link to post

Leeview 791
since moving south all the warrens are hedgerows and they do hold a lot of rabbits I cant remember putting a purse net down since I came down here, much more efficient to use a couple of 10yds stop nets through the hedge either end of the warren, when you've finished move one net up the hedge and carry on like that till the end of the day or hedge Y.I.S Leeview Quote Link to post

cumbrian-whippet 1
Mine is all gorse bushes, a nightmare to net up and retrieve caught rabbits have to rely on hearing the rabbits hit the net. One day i didn't hear a rabbit hit the net and waited half an hour for the ferret to emerge and found it devouring a rabbit which was still alive and not making a sound! Before i get hold of some more ferrets im going to go up there with some loppers and cut all the gorse round the holes back so i can get to them! Quote Link to post

Our rabbits aren't daft round this way, are they? That second picture of Mr. Tea pot's looks like an easy bury compared with the shit that we try ferreting! Quote Link to post
