Lurchers and farmers

Now, I'm a guy who often "walks on the other side of the fence", so to speak ! And have had a dog shot dead by an over zealous keeper; but we ALLWAYS only hear one side of these stories !! If you were threatened by someone with a firearm when you were on public land, going about your business, simply dial 999 and I can assure you, the guy will NEVER threaten anyone again !! He'll loose his F.A.C, S.G.C., and probably his livelyhood..... IF you were in the right !

Its proving it tho chartpolski, no doubt if it came to that the farmer would tell the law cochyn's dog was worrying his bullocks, leaving cochyn to prove otherwise, just be a waste of time and for both i reckon, theres acres and acres upon acres to go at, i reckon he should head for them instead.

 

I agree. The other thing is, I don't want to be seen as a trouble maker or someone causing a fuss by the other farmers. I'll never get any new permission.

im a farmer and dont mind lurchers at all when there owners have permission and there dogs are stock proof. But we've had lads lamping and the next morning we find sheep with broken or badly wounded back legs , these are the lads that spoil it for the rest of you. But we still let lads on who we can trust.Farmers usualy stereotype people with lurchers because of these stories of people poaching and wounding or killing livestock.

 

I understand this but, thankfully, the bitch is now completely stock broken. She's a rabbit dog(21tts)and is unlikely to bother a bullock (she fears them!). I think my main issue was that the guy was threatening and didn't even give me a chance when I wasn't doing anything wrong. ATB

mate next time youre on his land just stick to the path and keep the dog on a lead simple as, you never know if hes just had some bother with irresponsible dog owners and just wanted a rant at anyone and you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. dont take the rant too personal put it down to a bad day at the office all the best matey

Well if i was you i would locate all of the row s on his land and contact a ramblers association ,.

tell them he is not maintaining them and hates people walking on his land ,

before he knows whats hit him he will be hassled by the anorak brigade day and night

they will probably come out on mass ,

i have found this sort of farmer to be usedto intimadating people,I had several runins with one locally,over my driving along a track that is a vehichle right of way.After a frank exchange of views,andtelling him that as long as he chained the gate behind me i wasquitehappy to bolt cutter the lock,theupshot isthat i nowhave full permission to run my dogson his land.

He still terrorises other people though.

you could always go and see the farmer without yer dog and have a crack with him,he might be in a different mood, you never know you might come away with some new permission, its always better to have the farmer on side,ive got 4500acre of permission and i can come and go as i please, without any trouble, but having said that they can be the most fickle, cantankerous b*****ds ever to walk the fields, as there is a couple round here that wont give me time of day, due to hassle they had yers ago, with other dog lads so dont let the f****r walk all over yer, but its for the best if you can meet half way.

if that was a row through a field with stock in it ,ie not a path fenced off to the side . . Then walking a dog off the lead just gives the wrong impression mate. I know the law says under control ,not specifically on the lead, but i bet every dog owner that walks their dog off the lead says their dog is totally under control ,yours may well be , but i bet hes heard it a million times , one things for sure dogs on leads dont worry stock. I wouldnt dream of walking a dog off the lead through a field of stock, and 3 row in 1 field !! I bet he just loves that, so you hit another raw nerve straight away ! Heres a landowner raising stock and the law entitles the whole world to walk through his fields with their dogs off the lead. . . Another thing that gets me is diagonal footpaths straight through fields ,whats that all about? A lot of these row go back hundreds of years and were ways to get to church , why cant they just be rerouted round 2sides of a field , but try getting permission to do that. . If it was me , id go back without the dog , show my permission slips and make sure he knows you will have dogs on leads when walking through stock.

i think you should invite CHARTPOLSKI down for a walk around the farmers ground ,it sounds like he murdered the person that shot his dog ,lol.then again from my experience CHARTPOLSKI would not turn up for the walk ,
