WHAT AGE DO YOUS START A PUP?????

Recommended Posts

I THINK IT CAN VARY BY THE BREED AN GENDER OF THE PUP! BUT USUALLY AROUND THE 12MONTH MARK WOULD BE AVERAGE FOR ANY DOG IVE OWNED. AN AT THAT I WOULD START THEM OF SLOW AS THE MIND AN BODY ARE STILL AT A PUPPY STATE AT THIS AGE IN MY VIEW. TO MANY YOUNG DOG'S ARE RUINED BY ENTERING TO EARLY FOR EXAMPLE OF OPENING UP OUT OF FRUSTRATION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO COME TO TERMS WITH THEIR QUARRY. AN INJURIES BECAUSE THEIR SKELETAL AND MUSCLE SYSTEMS HAVENT HAD A CHANCE TO STRENGHEN TO A LEVEL TO SUPPORT THE VIGOURS AN STRESS'S PUT APON THEM.

i ususally wait till they're a year or so old... i mostly start mine on the lamp because i find they hunt up alot less after they miss... that being said, the bullx i have now went mooching regular with the terrier and it didnt make any difference to her recall when lamping, she's very good!

Very good post mate. Personally start mine on the lamp about 9 month old, but they are whippet(Laguna) and whippet type which do mature slightly earlier than collie or bull crosses I belive. How ever all dogs are individuals and are ready at different ages... some earlier some later than others. Best dog I ever owned ( Jay ) caught his first rabbit at 6 month old and was lethal on them by the yearling stage, but I belive he was an exception to the norm.
