firepower 68
I was told yesterday by a good mate that someone who shoots on some of the same land as us has been given permission to shoot on different land that I occasionally shoot too. The chap that has started shooting on there told the owner that he has a .243 although he hasn't. My mate bumped into him yesterday and he was telling him that he had shot deer on this land with his .17hmr.The only deer on that land are reds. He is well known around here for shooting dangerously and irresponsibly so the tale is quite possibly true. What would you do in this situation guys ? Quote Link to post
IanB 0
Just shows you the mentality of some people doesn't it, a red with a HMR ... theres too many idiots, using underpowered guns, like talking to a brick wall... Quote Link to post
quicksilver 0
a couple months ago i was in a RFD's and there was a guy buying 20gr 17hmr rounds, he asked if the 20gr were ok for deer. makes you think if some of these people should be allowed near guns. Quote Link to post

Grass the b*staard. Tell the permission owner, FEO, Wildlife Conservancy. Just imagine the suffering of a wounded animal taking days or weeks to die of gangrene. And what a weapon for the antis! FFS the legal minimum for CWD is 22CF, >1000ft.lbs. HMR is barely a quarter of that and a red 10 times the weight of a CWD. Shop him without a second thought. The only Deer that can be taken with a .22 CF are CWD - Muntjac and Roe in Scotland everything else must be .243 or above Quote Link to post

comanche 2,990
Find out if he really does have a 243 and if he really does shoot deer. Obviously try to check the facts but..... If it turns out that he is trying to kill deer with a little spit -gun you have to ask what else is he up to that is either stupid ,illegal or cruel. Before long whatever he is doing will reflect on everybody else who has permission on the land . Get him off it by fair means or foul. If he lost his certificate would it be so bad ? Mr_Logic 5
Agreed, if he's shooting reds and bragging, let him brag to his FEO. Quote Link to post
trapperman 474
things like this piss me off at the moment the police have let this idiot have a firearm it doesant matter what calibre it is but they gave him a certificate just because he has some land to shoot on even tho he hasnt got 2 brain cells to rub togather, yet myself as a professional pest controller with gamekeeping qualifications, wildlife management courses and full insurance for firearms for buisines use am struggling to even get a fac air rifle because i want it open cert, dont make sence. riohog 5,701
ok we all know its illigal.. but ill bet hes not the only numpty shooting ,deer with the incorrect calibre wether it be red or whatever!!dosent make it right though or humane unless hes close and puts the bullet at the side of its ear ,it aint good pehaps he finishes it off with his ..bow and arrow Quote Link to post
firepower 68
Thanks guys, I was going to call the FEO and go to see the landowner tomorrow. I suppose he could be lying about the deer to make himself look big but at the end of the day it is not on. I know for a fact that on a shared permission he nearly shot someone else, he was in cover across a lane on common land and shooting over the road into the land he has permission on. Fortunately the guys over the road were lying flat waiting for rabbits and not stood up otherwise it could have been fatal for them or anyone on the lane. Now how the hell do I word it with the FEO ?
