Mutimer 0
I have recently dug two pits approx 2ft x 2ft with a removable lid. I have also set three tunnels leading into pit. All this is underground and covered. I have also dug three traps at entry points within the box. I have baited tunnels and inside of box. I have placed traps in postion covered with soil with the safety on. The box is baited and just waiting a few day before setting My question is when i come to set traps do i bother covering with soil or do i just leave them uncovered. Just not sure if will be able to cover with soil without setting off. It will be dark so the will not see them. Is it normaly practice to cover MK4 traps in tunnels when set at ground level? Thanks for any advise Quote Link to post
trapperman 474
with mk4s for squirrel and rat you dont have to cover them as they dont seem to care but this time of year you could always flick a few leaves on if you want just cut yourself a setting stick from hazel and cut a taper on one end slide this under the plate when you do it to stop it firing. with mk6s for rabbit hole trapping or wire run throughs always cover the trap, although i have caught in the past with uncovered traps i think it better to cover them. Thwaites 0
Like trapperman said, just as long as the animal doesn't see it, you should be reet. If your mk4 is shiny and new, then you should dull it down by soaking it in tea, or burying it in a marsh/bog for a few days. But if it's rusty, you shouldn't have any problems, and so wont need to put soil ontop - just a few leaves will do. Is it normally practice? Well depends on what evironment your in - this time of the year with the leaves falling you should put leaves in - in the summer, start thinking about grass. There's no real manual as to how to set a fenn, just as long as it's legal. If you ARE goin to put soil on it, then as long as you put the soil on before you take the safety off, then it should'nt go off by mistake. Anyway, when the trap goes off it will knock off any soil/leaves, so nee botha mate! Edited November 24, 2009 by Thwaites Quote Link to post
