Malt 379
All depends on the hob IMO. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Its all down to personal preference, some times I work jils, some times hobs, or even hobs and jills together, they all hunt Quote Link to post

The one 8,512
I like a good sized jill that has the pace to last a day's ferreting my hobs snipped and with the cost of that and a collar i never fancied the risk of losing him Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
A good sized hob takes no nonsense, and does not get dragged around the warren as easy as a jill. If you dont mind digging, a hob can be a great tool in the right place. Getting a lie up with a decent hob is not usually a longwinded affair, most are on there way after a kill. Sometimes the jills can spend a long time finishing the job if they cannot get to the head end of a bunny. All size and sexes of ferrets have there place. Knowing where to use them gives you easiest option. Quote Link to post

theferreter 311
i perefer jills mate dont kill as much as big hobs means less digging Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
I much prefer hobs. All the hobs Ive had I have prefered to the jills. I dont even think they kill more they just do it quicker and ground the rabbits better to give you a solid location to dig to. Where as I have had jills get pulled off kills, if there not in a cul-de-sac (stop end lol) I dont find any advantages to jills where I work them, just dont like them. I think hobs get are quicker to enter too as alot of jill kits ive had just feck around for a good few trips out before they start doing anything much. I also think they are more methodical in the way they work. Never found much difference in disturbing nets either, but the hobs I do have are about medium sized not the ones that look like dogs lol. Its not like jills have any less prey drive and dont try to kill as much they just dont do it as quickly and efficiantly as a hob. But to be fair I havent owned enough ferrets to give a fair view but thats just what Ive found from the ones I have owned. Edited November 23, 2009 by Hob&Jill Quote Link to post
shotgunandy 2
really mate its down to the individual ferret. i have worked both hobs and jills and have very good results with both. both have different advatages, for example a hob is bigger and is less likely to be kicked about but if a rabbit gets "dead ended", the jill can get round him easier to bout him. also i find that if the jill lies up, dropping the hob in will knock her off the rabbit and both will come out, it saves on digging.
