I have a nuttal terrier for bushing with my lurchers, he is bang on for the job, puts up loads for them to chase and catches the odd bit himself, seriously worth looking at for what you want mate, atvb Richard

All my life I have used Terriers for bushing and in my oppinion, if they are really keen for the job there is a good chance you will one day loose them and I mean never to get them back! After adding that I still have a few Border Terriers hunting with my little pack of Hounds but they always have a finder collar around their necks. I have lost three cracking little workers and I will do my best not too loose anymore. My Little Bassets and Basset crosses are brilliant little bushers and they dont go to ground. Of course there are other ways which they can be lost, but I shouldnt loose them yo ground Regards Warren

i use a lurcher x russel was an accidental mating by a friend of the family which i took on at 5 weeks in a rush of blood and the best mistake i ever made. he works any cover gives tongue when puts something up, will work the nets when ferretin and does go to ground but will call out, if i want him to. :whistling: sire was collie grey x beddie grey to a pure russel. looks like a tan sealyham, gotr massive guts and brains to match! absolutley loves a rat too!

I have used springer spaniels to work with my lurchers for the last 25 years and have found them easier to control than terriers that i used to bush with and have never lost one yet.An awkward predicament years ago [bANNED TEXT] bushing with my mates terriers in a private wood were a badger unbeknown resided convinced me never to use terriers again though they do take some beating in realy tight cover.atb dell

I use spaniels too Dell, and they are true workaholics, will flush game all day long for sure from any land or cover....added bonus of a great retrieve too.

But for me, the cross-breds are the ultimate for working alongside the lurchers, and doing drives to guns and lurchers, as they will track a line further, and also give tounge, which the lurchers home in on. Or even when just ratching with the pack, when a hound speaks, it gets all the dogs attention straight away that there is game here!

Thats true about hunting a line as my springers are used in close proximity and will not hunt on.I have thought about crossing one with a russel as i have heard good reports about them but a few lads down south who have the cross say they will go to ground if they get the chance.atb dell
