Do you keep dogs, ferrets or even cats? Thought so ;) Regardless of whether or not you feed kibble, canned, home cooked or raw, take a look at this. Taking part is free, except the cost of a stamp, and would really help.

Basically the idea is you get a free checkup at the vets for Pet Smile Month, and then fill in the survey. UKRMB are trying to establish further evidence of the collaboration between the junk pet food industry and vets. Kibble AND raw (and all other) fed dogs need to take part for this to work. It's a quantitative analysis more than anything, but hopefully a list of raw-friendly vets will come out of the other end as well.

Here in the UK, Pet Smile Month is once again upon us - and please

don't skip this post if you're not in the UK, `cos it happens in the

USA, Australia and probably other countries as well.

Pet Smile Month is a joint initiative between the veterinary

profession and the junk pet food manufacturers - this year in the UK

it's Mars, along with Pet Plan Insurance. During this month

(September) vets are offering a FREE dental health check for pets.

Sounds good so far? Aha - they have a cunning plan! You may well be

advised that your pet's teeth need cleaning, or that some form of

medical intervention is necessary - of course this may well be

necessary if the pet is fed processed food! It is quite likely that you will be

advised to buy one or more of the following: a `special'

toothbrush, toothpaste, an almost magical processed treat that will

keep your pet's teeth clean and healthy-- oh yes,and if diet is

discussed, what do you guess they'll recommend?

For further info on the UK Pet Smile Month, take a look at

http://www.ukrmb.co.uk/showcontent.toy?contentnid=61536

and have a look at how the veterinary profession view the benefits of

Pet Smile Month here:

http://www.ukrmb.co.uk/showcontent.toy?contentnid=62126

So what's to do? UKRMB are asking for people in the UK to go along

with their dogs, encourage friends, family to do the same. It seems

that most vets will include cats and ferrets within the Pet Smile

remit too. We need both raw fed and processed fed pets to take part.

Then print off the survey form at:

http://www.ukrmb.co.uk/showcontent.toy?con...d=69215%3CBR%3E

complete it and send it to us at UKRMB.

The data collected will be used for a variety of purposes, to further

our campaign against the junk petfood industry, together with it's

`very close' association with the veterinary profession.

Do PLEASE make a point of looking at

Especially listen to the answer of the following question:

"Dogs don't brush their teeth in the wild, why should I do it then?"

Similar surveys will be run next year in Australia and the US during

their respective `pet dental months'. Details will be announced as

and when.

This is something positive we can all get involved in. Looking

forward to receiving your completed surveys.

It would be great if you cross posted this information, to get to as

wide an audience as possible.

Many thanks.
