Edd_Wiltshire 9
Out last thursday with the whippet and spotted 8-10 squatters in the middle of a field. Trouble is the field has 5-6 cross country jumps around the outside, rush of blood to the head, slipped the dog, good chase, bloody dog should of struck it twice but he was happy running, then wallop and yelp. He came back, checked him briefly and he seemed fine. Anyway got back to the car and noticed his eye and nose was bleeding and he was covered in green stuff around his neck. Get him home and he must of hammered into the cross country jump so hard that the mould rubbed off, cut his eye and neck and his collar had wood stuck in it. He was ok apart from cuts but I have definitely learnt my lesson. Felt like a right moron running in that field but I won’t be doing that again! Quote Link to post

donk 12
Thing is mate the dogs got to learn to try to avoid obstacles like that. Ok its not ideal having a dog hit stuff, and i guess we would all like to think that we run our dogs on perfect ground, but whats the reality? Theres not many of us that have permission with vast expanses of land, lots of us have smaller fields to run which are surrounded with fences, got old bits of machinery left in the corners. Even bits of tree that have blown off can cause the dog injury. I understand what youre saying mate, but dont go blaming yourself for anythin like that, dogs will pick up injuries, simple as that. Glad the dogs ok though Quote Link to post
andyrose 8
that's the problem, the rabbit will always run to an obstacle, i run my old colliex at a rabbit on a local country park once the only thing for 2-300 yds was a park bench, you guessed it rabbit headed straight for it and flew under, the lurcher tried to follow. I swear the ringing from the bench echoed around the park, it proper floored her. she was a bit shook but no harm done, but it is a horrible feeling Quote Link to post
