housing outside

hia all , my first post in this section , i have not had a dog for around 5 years now since my whippet died which i use to do lampnig with and as i do a lot of pigeon shooting now have been chatting the other half up inta the idea of a little cocker as my little helper. the first thing i am thinking is housing and wether to keep inside or out, we would like to keep it outside realy so what would be the best way if i buy a puppy at what stage would you start ta keep it outside and would it be ok on it,s own as i have had people telling me this can cause probs away from people . wanna find out as much as i can before so i dont make mistakes , any help appreciated , many thanks , midge

when i brought my springer 2 years ago i kept it inside for the first two days then it went straight outside.

it is also on its own and i have no problems with it, it also stays in the house for about half a day on the weekend. dogs are much easier when they are outside.

keep outside straight away what it does'nt know it wont miss give it a childs cuddly toy to snuggle up to.Welcome anyone who wants to see the pup get it socialised around people and other dogs.

a good study run with a nice warm house box raised up from the cold is great and easy to clean if you use a good concrete mix and slant it for proper drainage unlike my stupid self who now has to cap the surface lol

 

this is how i keep my colliexspringer hes my first dog but he is really happy out there and he has his own space where he can be safely locked up away from theiving hands. he is always out when i am home though because its no fun beig stuck inside all of the time.

 

atb with the kennel and if you need some pictures i can put some up, its by no means perfect but it was cheap to build and will last for a good few dogs lifetimes thats for sure

wat about weld mesh easily assembled less hassle with a wooden box witha wind shield ( piece of wood inside the opening ) hard to beat then if u dont want dog later on easily took down might look expensive but lifetime job. atb

I made kennels in some stable's back breaking work, but they look and work great

will try and remember mate and mine is made of welded angle iron frame, cladded with 9mm exterior ply. bolted on with m6 roofing bolts. good sturdy structure and easy to knock up if you have a welder and cordless drill. as for the mesh front i used the mesh from inside the panels which surround building sites :whistle: lol

 

easy to get and you just tack weld it onto the frame before you paint it.

good idea about the mesh that surrounds building sites , can easily get hold of some panels as i work on sites all the time, lewismac1 those kennels look great and very profesional , hope mine turn out as good but will only be doing a small structure enough for one dog , anyone got some pics of kennels like that and with a run on , cheers

If you do make one with mesh, make sure you roof it, some dogs learn to climb the mesh quickly.

the mesh around building sites is too thin...harris fencing i think its called and a dog can easily break it which can caose al sorts of problems from poking their eyes out to easy escape...and also easy entry from scum....just an oppinion...
