Thwaites 0
Now then, this is my first post so im sure if im doing it right, but i do have a question about shotguns, which probably can be easily answered on this forum, so i guessed there was no harm in asking! I'm wanting to buy my first shotgun, preferrably an over and under, suitable for field use (mainly rabbit and corvids), and im not into all that engraving crap, just a simple, reliable and tough shotgun, has a multichoke, and around 600 pound. Any info on which bore i should use would be great, but i'd either like a 20 bore or a 12 bore, mainly because cartridges are easier to get hold of round here like eh! Any help would be much appreciated, Thwaites Quote Link to post
dave1372 83
Are you looking to buy a new or secondhand shotgun first of all? In my opinion you should go for a 12 bore first, the ammunition is a lot cheaper than 20 bore for a start. Absolutely nothing wrong with a 20 bore I love shooting my wifes 20 bore. Soon as you get the shooting bug you will need to start saving for a 20 bore anyway lol! Quote Link to post
langouroux 14
hello mate and welcome. i got a shotgun from sportsman gun center in exeter... some guy had bought one, then his wife had bought him a really nice one for his birthday. so i ended up with a baikal 12G over and under with less than a box or so of cartridges fired for £150!!! it was basically brand new. it fits me fine...which is probably the main thing to worry about. if the gun doesn't fit right then it wont shoot right. have fun shoppping www.guntrader.co.uk Quote Link to post
English Steve 0
My first was a Lanber 12g Sporter. Perfectly adequate as a first gun and you should be able to find one new in or around your budget. Kept mine for 2 years then traded it in on a Beretta and got back the same money I had paid for it. Thwaites 0
Hey, and cheers for the replys! Ill have a gander at www.guntrader.co.uk and see what they have to offer. But i suppose it would need to fit right, so seeing it first would be better, but i guess that using the measurments of the heal and comb etc. i could make a model or something ! Cheers again for the advice, Thwaites Quote Link to post
