shooting sticks

I have been trying to get used to a single stick with the rifle but am nit having much sucess.

can anyone recommend a good set of sticks and where to get them from

Just cut a pair of hazel sticks out of a hedge mate,they will be perfect,use a section of bicycle inner tube to hold them together..........Martin.

Two plastic coated metal 6 foot garden poles fixed together with a kitchen unit fastener about 8" from the top - cheap, light and works perfect. I've just treated myself to a fresh pair, £4.40 all told - bargain!

I wanted something that would fit in the car easily and so i bought a X3M1 pair of the telescoping jobbies. I bought mine in the Litt's sale and they cost me £10.00.

 

Hazel and garden canes are fine if you have a pick-up etc, if you want something to fit in the boot of your car, like me you will have to try something else. I haven't frightened any deer with them shot a few off them mind They are light too, if you need to walk a long way and weight is an issue.

I bought a pair of the x3m1 telescopic sticks and for £20 they are worth buying, you can get them from lots of places they also do a tripod which will be even steadier.

got to homebase and buy to plastic coated garden canes, drill a hole near the top and put a nut and bolt through it cost about £5.

 

i left the bolt long so that i have somewhere to rest my index finger which seems to make it that little bit more steady.

i bought a pair off the quad sticks from a shooting magazine. great if you have a lot off cover and a bipod is to small.steady as a rock only bad thing is the price at £70 but you could easily make them yourself when you see them, cannot rate them highly enough

Lads you want to get on the quad sticks.

 

They are a 4 legged stick, that open out and then you rest your rifle between the two forked secions. one at the front, the other at the butt.

 

Holds your rifle TRUE and steady, no lateral motion.

 

Dropped my first Doe on them. No wobble at all...

I do like the forked split sticks, but i have shot by far the greatest amount of my deer from off a single stick. I think alot is to do with what you are used to......If it aint broke, don't fix it.... JD

Nail on the head mate and as for noisy plastic sticks ,bollocks springs to mind .Only noisy if the user has no business being in the countryside .Noise is what a man makes not a pair of sticks .

I'm with Dan and Langouroux - plastic coated garden poles. Mine are fixed together with lengths of velcro - don't make noise, are v light and dirt cheap.

Richard at Stalkers UK has some very good telescopic tripods - I've shot from one very successfully, but they are heavier and more expensive.
