harris hawks

i'm completely fascinated with harris'. i would love to fly one and use my ferrets to bolt rabbits for them. for the past few months i have been reading up on them and i realise that i should wait a bit before i think about getting one. i would like to know though, from an owners view, how much time do they need, how hard are they to look after, how much do they cost to buy, feed and care for?

are there better birds for beginners than harris'?

harris's are undoubtedly the best begginers bird, you need time for them every day

chicks are not that dear with 500 setting you back about £12.50

they are not that hard to look after but you need to look after them well.

males are cheaper than females and a male costs around £250 and a female about £300

Hi mate, just seen your post where abouts in south yorks are you? im in wakefield if you fancy a day with a harris at an early stage which you would more than likley end up with unless you bought a 'second hand one' which if your really keen i would not recomend, you really need to bond with these birds from day one your more than welcome,ruby my female harris is flying to the glove on the creonce and improving every day which you need to see more than a hawk killing for fun. i would rather somebody like you have a day and see what is involved for nothing than going out and buying one only to regret it a week later. the harris hawk is a lovely bird but you get out of it what you put into it. how old are you? if your struggling for transport i will come and pick you up. theres to many of these birds being past from pillar to post, im pretty new to it myself and dont claim to be a expert but im sure i could offer you some sound advice. check my post "my first hawk" regards mark (liams dad.)

cheers mate. sounds good, i'm only a 20 minute run down the m1 mate @ mexborough. i am a bit tied up for the time at the minute and am struggling to get out but i will definately take you up on the offer. i have my own transport so getting there is not a problem, i also have a couple of permissions up north yorkshire that i could take you on in return, allthough they are better for shooting/ferreting, unless you fly the bird on the lamp then they will be spot on. by the way i'm 21 pal.

Great advice guys thanks alot oyu havbe helped me also to think about the future for when i can get a harris.
