watchman 256
agree with the above, but i will say they are not allways the easiest to train for a novice where as a lab and this is only from what i seen and been told in the field are a bit calmer therfor easier to handle and train only an oppinion mate not set in stone atb Quote Link to post
butcherboy 68
Probably best to start by asking................what type of shooting / work do you want it for? Does raising pheasant mean flushing? Edited November 19, 2009 by butcherboy Quote Link to post

Young boys starting out are put off from the word go by the price. Me personally would give my pups away free to a good working home to get kids involved in shooting. atb Quote Link to post
patterdaddy 0
right.... springer or lab.... Quote Link to post
Dave C 63
As a first Gundog i would say a good working Lab or Springer, as both will do a good job for you. I have had Labs, GWP and Cocker X in the past, i now have an 8 month old Lab bitch who has about trained herself, she is only 20" high, very athletic and will face any cover as keenly as a springer, not all labs are like this so make sure you are looking at good working / trailing stock. Let us know what you decide. Dave. Quote Link to post
