Mr_Logic 5
HMR = rabbit round, please be very careful shooting foxes with it. It is actually a low-powered little tool, which definitely has its uses. Enjoy it, but don't go stupid with it - it's not a wonder-round. Quote Link to post
donkdaniel 236
oh good cant wait to get out there now had a problem with my gun but sorted now out this afternoon to zero and then look out loads of foxes down here hope you get plenty moore mate good size fox to Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Guys, HMR = not really a fox round, please make sure of close range and clean kills OK, we don't want maimed animals being found by the fluffies - we will suffer, and the animal will suffer - so either use a proper gun or be very careful? Camokid, don't take it personally. Mr_Logic's quite right and what he said is sound advice. A larger round on fox equals a cleaner, more humane kill without the inherent risks of the lighter, .17 on animals of this size. Having said that, placement is crucial whatever you're using. Mr_Logic 5
My worry is simply that you will see HMR work on rabbits and push the distance out, forgetting that it's a tiny little round with hardly any energy, and that leads to woundings. Trust me, I learned the hard way. That's why I say it's OK for occasional use, but if you're serious about knocking over Charlie as a primary concern on a night's shooting, then take a bigger gun. YOU must be a good shot, hope when on the target range , you are only making 1 hole on the target sheet with all your shots , no pattern as they all go through the same hole. Head shots GREAT if between the eye and the ear, 1st time you hit in front of the eye....OFF GOES 1 VERY BADLY MAMED FOX, IT WONT DIE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AS THERE WONT BE ENOUGH LOSS OF BLOOD, HOWEVER IT WILL DIE OF STARVATION AS IT WONT BE ABLE TO EAT 10 - 15 DAYS SHOULD KILL IT !!!!!! listen to the advice some guys are telling you this is what this FORUM is all about, helping out others, if you want to shoot FOXES please give them a bit of respect and use a suitable calibre for the JOB. Your FAC officer is talking bull shit if he says your hmr is OK for FOX. NOT having a go at you, more aimed at the FAC officer who told you it was good for FOX....Get a 2nd opinion Quote Link to post
