DEERHOUND GREYHOUNDS VS BULLGREYHOUNDS

Recommended Posts

the problems not with the breeds being used in either cross but with the individual sire/damn. good deerhouns across good grey hounds will give you good allrounders just like good bull across good greys will you give good x's too. problem is nowadays we have untried bull bieing put across failed track dogs etc.. and being called bull x's....

just like we have show deerhounds being used on greyhounds when neither has seen any real work.......recipie for disaster.

This is not a topic to create a argument or breed wars, just to get peoples oppinions on the above crosses when being used for allround dogs, big(pre ban) and small fur.

I have noticed that the bull x has become a very popular cross in the past few years in particular, and the deerhound greyhound has become less and less popular or common. Is this due to the fact that the bullx is a better breed at the job or easier to enter to quarry or just because the decent deerhound blood is becoming very rare and harder to get hold of. The deerhound greyhounds used to be very common and highly rated or even the smaller 3/4 greys, as great allrounders, takeing rabbit, fox, hare(daytime too) and deer, got some brain too not just smashing in machines. please no bitching just constructive comments or past present lines would be helpfull. Happy hunting.

ive only ever had one 1\4 bred deerhound around 25 years back when they were all the rage before collie crosses came about as popular,as a daytime hare dog was ok to big to be a good lamp dog,and not enough bottle to take large game regular, where the bullx is supreme in all fields in my opinion, but i state bull x when a decent line of bull (apbt)is used some lookalikey bulls are big strong dogs as with english and staff types but have no decent genes to ad to a hunting dog and have no true gameness or focased attitude, also why have a big hairy brute at 30in when you can if bred correctly the bullx is number one and the 2nd and 3rd generation bullx is far better again than a half x from what ive seen working as for the english bull x why they are show bred circus freaks and have always been shite as working dogs, just a new kinky money making scam can anyone name one noted english bull that has ever earned CH OR ROM STATUS IN THE UK OR USA,exactly

Good answer spot on whatever breed you use or intend to use both parents grandparents must fit the bill,to many dogs being bred using show or pedigree non working because of their breed name i.e. bull deerhound saluki and the collie.

A good friend of mine coursed deerhounds all over country pre ban the real deal,he was persuaded to allow his dog to be used for stud over a ex track dog of distinction not an abandoned greyhound or something that couldnt make the grade, the result was a simply awesome on all quarry, obviously she would struggle on short bursted rabbits but rabbits on the lamp big fields spot on.

I like all types of lurcher to a degree as long as it has been bred with thought and planning, and the right parents used.

ya but a bull cross cant run lyk a deerhound cross becuase a deerhound cross has more stamina and bull crosses get tired easly atb great white

that statement is not 100%, i had a 2nd gen half x bull, and it used to last longer on a nigh out than my mates saluki x, with my bull having more runs aswell, it really depends on the dog really, i have witnessed a lot of bull x's burn out quite early on a night out but like i said its all downt to the dog and its fitness etc

i also think that deerhound x's make good fox dogs
