Guest Jane Russell
I'm more used to lurchers. Though I used to take the farm dogs ratting in the barns when I was a kid. I'm interested in the history and traditions of working dogs. I don't consider hunting to be a sport; more a way of life. With the laws the way they stand, I don't hunt. But I still appreciate the working dogs -- gun dogs and JRTs mostly and the lurchers, greyhounds, deerhounds etc for their speed, power and grace. I wouldn't hunt something I couldn't/wouldn't eat. I'm not a landowner so I don't have a problem with foxes, mink or badgers for example. Jane Quote Link to post

I have a friend who has some terrier pups and he's said I can have one. A friend had a springer when I was a kid. His hunting skills extended to doing a runner into town and pinching legs of lamb from the butcher Jane Edited September 10, 2006 by Jane Russell Quote Link to post

Guest Jane Russell
JANE ARE YOU REALLY INTO HUNTING  No. It's not my way of life but I'm not anti-hunting. I appreciate the skill involved in training the dogs and a rabbit for the pot is nice now and again. I also appreciate the time and consideration taken in breeding a good dog or horse etc. I'm interested in the history of hunting with dogs because it's hard to find anything much that it is possible to consider as "British" culture. I think hunting is part of our cultural heritage. I don't think the hunting laws are very helpful. Either to the hunters or to much of the quarry population. But laws are passed by people who don't understand a way of life. They think the countryside is for getting away from the towns and hunting spoils their view of nature as being all cutesy fluffy bunny-wunnies and it would be nice if there was a golf course with lakes instead of a field of cows and cockerals mustn't crow because it disturbs their sleep. WTF! I'm not into extremes. I think a "kill anything that moves" attitude sucks just as much as an "eating honey is exploitation of bees" attitude. But I still listen to the point of views of both extremes. So maybe I'm not the sort of person the majority of members here want on their forum. I'm perfectly happy to leave if I'm not wanted/tolerated. Jane Quote Link to post
Guest buster
No,i dont want you to leave its nice for you to be interested in the hunting way of life instead of being a anti ramming things down our throat's. Quote Link to post
steve109 43
dont take it to heart jane its only a opinion............ we all have em Quote Link to post
Guest Jane Russell
But unless you listen you can't decide they are nutters!!! I certainly discussed the honey issue quite heatedly and it turned out that the person in question had no idea about bee keeping. I don't know a lot but I passed on what little I knew and maybe he changed his mind about honey, I don't know -- he went off to build schools in Botswana or something! Quote Link to post
