Day 9

Recommended Posts

Just another day out, but this time took the old russel as the old one was judging at another bird show. (really needs to get his priorities sorted!)

Got sidetracked to start with, setting a few traps.

On the first mark with the terrier, ended up with a 3 foot dig, then a 4 footer, and then a bleeding 5 footer.

Did not get the kill from the 5 footer, this is the first kill left this year, I really hate leaving a body in, but I could not reach it whilst head and shoulders down the hole on my own, (and i did not want to join it!) Managed to coax the ferret out on a rabbit.

This took me an hour and a half before I got moving again. Then I covered some land we have never touched before, and I can see why, there was nothing there to be honest, but it needed checking just in case.

Got on to few after moving a bit, but the pickings are slim this year.

Watched Billy Bobs Brother get dragged 10 yrds above ground from a missed hole, he nearly stopped the rabbit, but it finally got away with a last kick, good effort, if it had been a bigger hob then maybee he could have took it down!

Only a few in the end.

Awesome Mr Brimmer, glad to see you having to work for a few bunnies for a change LOL, I have to ask though, how the hell you you get a neat hole like that, mine always ends up looking like a trench :wallbash: shame you didn't have the old fella there cos you could of dangled him down the hole to retrieve the bunny :gunsmilie:

Old fellers the one sometimes grabbing my ankles mate! :icon_eek: Dont know how the holes end up like that, they just do!

On a more serious note, do you need someone to run Col out occasionally?

Thats exactly why i prefer bolting jills to killer hobs :D ! Thats pretty much the kind of dig we usually get on my ground, we just have trees roots to make it more fun! Had a nightmare last season, 7-8ft down through an old farm dump to get to a jill trapped in a cave in, not even a rabbit to make it worthwhile  .

its interesting how different approaches to acheive the same end develop based on local conditions

No killer hob in this warren Tyla, I know the ground well. Tried playin safe with a jill, but sometimes things just dont work out, or the jills get too good.
