merle24 61
Interesting topic , i own a reverse threequarter fell collie greyhound bitch called Kim, Lamperjohn off this site and several other lads off here have seen her run, she isn,t a speed merchant but she ain,t slow even at 8 years of age, she has had 108 hares upto date , and not all on the lamp, she has good pace, strength, agility, and bags of stamina, her biggesthaul of hares in one night stands at 9 from 15 slips, her biggest tally on the lamp stands at 28 rabbits and 3 hares, she is still retreiving hares at 8 years of age, she isn,t your typical reverse three quarter, she stands at just under 21 inches is very racey, and very lightly built, i have a merle 9/16,s fell collie, 7/16,s greyhound out of her, she is also small and racey in statue, and has all the attributes of her mother, i also have a young dog pup who is 4 months old out of my old bitch, to a genuine first cross whippet greyhound. In my opinion if you the right collies i.e. leggy smooth coated Nap types, or Fell collie types that are leggy and racey in statue , you stand a good chance in producing decent offsprings, but sadly to many people go down the wrong road and are breeding off substandard collies and are producing second rate dogs, theres little or no wastage if you use the right dogs. regards collie john. Sounds like the dog has thrown more to the longdog blood than the herding side of things, the way you describes it sounds more like a first cross. so iam not surprised it can catch a few. I would be interested to see the land on which this dog has caught 9 hares in one night, were they boxed in by stone walls by any chance ? and by night i take it you mean lamping, not being funny mate but keep it real eh, lamping hares aint cricket and nothing to brag about, especilly over rough hilly stoned wall ground, like in lancashire. Iam not the one saying silly things about a reverse 3/4 bred dog mate, such a dog would not be able to come to terms with a FIT WINTER HARE in the day or even one that runs well on the lamp as some do, you say you have loads of hares near you and i would put money on it that youre claims are out of season on rough ground lamping half grown hares, i would like to see pics of this super reverse 3/4 bred dog. not sacrcasim mate just keeping it real. atb.
