Cleanspade 3,322
always though and i dont mean any badness reverse three qaurters were waste for a keen hunting man my mate had a good one years ago but was limited to only rabbits she was a good dog but as she got older she had no natural pace , she won the nlrc rabbiting finals twice but limited ,as she got older , Yeah,.been out with the bitch, and had her owner stay down here at my place for a mouch... He was a nice guy,..and very realistic as regards the capabilities of his own reverse three quarter bred,....I've bred similar critters myself,..and although they are undeniably canny,.. they age,..real quick... did this bitch produce anything of note. must have been a good sort ? cúagusgiorraí 57
lads let me throw this one in; I think it depends on the working dog you cross back to. For example if you cross back to a low backed collie then you're not going to catch a thing! But if you cross back to a proper tall leggy collie, that can run all day (quickly) then you reduce the "wastage", and the result should be able to run fast enough Edited November 15, 2009 by cúagusgiorraà Quote Link to post
whin 463
a bit of sense there there a big old collie he must stand at 23 to 24 a [bANNED TEXT] stamp of adog heel bred a gooddogsaw some of his pups ,ye the [bANNED TEXT] colie will bring the wastage down Quote Link to post
whin 463
he bred it to a greyhound i dont know what it produced work wise but if he just wanted rabbits we should had bred my luke to his maggie just rabbiting and the odd hare or fox as mines was simliar but more racy and a fiesty little fecher , a good dog his wa s out of cassy to a collie and mines was running dog to running dog colie type ,they through quick and strong dogs about 24 long time ago now Quote Link to post

MOO 730
Why ask for peoples opinions on the subject and then dissregard there replies ???? Your hunting over shite mate, imo by the looks of what youre into you would be better off with a first cross beddi whippet. Your more guilty than most regarding your above statement ...you have very one sided views Quote Link to post
merle24 61
Why ask for peoples opinions on the subject and then dissregard there replies ???? Your hunting over shite mate, imo by the looks of what youre into you would be better off with a first cross beddi whippet. Your more guilty than most regarding your above statement ...you have very one sided views Untrue, IMO reverse 3/4 cross is to slow for most land and quarry, where i hunt they wouldnt catch a cold, a waste of kennel space iam affraid,, if you run them over shite slow ground where the quarry carnt hit the gears then you may catch a few, but a first half x would catch more imo. hence the reason why i said that i depends on the ground you are hunting. i cannot for the life of me see the point in the reverse 3/4 cross, as opposed to a halfcross, can you ? colliejohn 840
Interesting topic , i own a reverse threequarter fell collie greyhound bitch called Kim, Lamperjohn off this site and several other lads off here have seen her run, she isn,t a speed merchant but she ain,t slow even at 8 years of age, she has had 108 hares upto date , and not all on the lamp, she has good pace, strength, agility, and bags of stamina, her biggesthaul of hares in one night stands at 9 from 15 slips, her biggest tally on the lamp stands at 28 rabbits and 3 hares, she is still retreiving hares at 8 years of age, she isn,t your typical reverse three quarter, she stands at just under 21 inches is very racey, and very lightly built, i have a merle 9/16,s fell collie, 7/16,s greyhound out of her, she is also small and racey in statue, and has all the attributes of her mother, i also have a young dog pup who is 4 months old out of my old bitch, to a genuine first cross whippet greyhound. In my opinion if you the right collies i.e. leggy smooth coated Nap types, or Fell collie types that are leggy and racey in statue , you stand a good chance in producing decent offsprings, but sadly to many people go down the wrong road and are breeding off substandard collies and are producing second rate dogs, theres little or no wastage if you use the right dogs. regards collie john.
