paulk73 151
the sub-heading for this section of the forum is earthdogs and working terriers. therefor im assuming that the two are completly seperate ie. foxwork underground being earthdog work. and everything else above ground ie rats, rabitts being done by the working terrier. just cant quite understand it cos some people that post on the forum, seem to think that that a working terrier has to work fox to be called a woking terrier. even though in the sub heading on the forum the two are completly seperate. the way i understand it then is that earthwork is just that. so a dog that works fox and fox alone is an earth dog. and all other terriers that carry out a multitude of pest control work is a working terrier...................discuss Quote Link to post

wexford Pa 84
For me a working terrier is a dog that goes to ground to either flush or face his quarry head on n stand toe to toe.. I suppose an earth dog is the same thing.. A dog that hunts vermin such as rabbits and rats, to me are just hunting terriers and are quiet useful dogs but their NOT working terriers.. This probably doesnt answer ur question too clearly, but it just gets up my nose when men call some little scruff ball of a dog that kills rats about the house a 'working terrier'.. paulk73 151
cheers wexford mate i apprieciate your answer. would you say that is the view of most earth dog owners? my thought would be( and this is only my opinion, i dont want to offend anybody) a working terrier would be a terrier that did any form of pest control that was asked/expected/required of it Quote Link to post
