Annmarie09 5
I give my dog raw eggs (without the shell!), if I give her cooked eggs she farts like no one's business! I know they love the shells because when my GSD used to raid the bin that was what he was after - but then again he also loved stealing the coal from the bucket but I would never have put it in his food! Yes you can give the shell aswell, they might not eat it though Annmarie, dogs eating coal are usually seeking charcoal in their diet, you can buy charcoal biscuits form the pet shop
mwncidur 0
We give our 2 lurchers and our welsh sheep dog hard boiled eggs. All 3 of them peel the shells off and eat only the white and yolk. Keeps them amused for a few minutes too. Edited November 14, 2009 by mwncidur
Terrie 12
It could be good for a calcium difficentcy as i know that with chickens the will stop laying (or layin soft shelled eggs if they re lacking in calcium) I have been tole to crush them up into small peices to disguise what it is as they can then get what they are needing calcium or give them oyster shell. (chickens NOT dogs. Any way my point is cant see it doing any harm every thing is ok in MODERATION! (my opinion not what other of more experinced people might say) But go with what ever those most experinced say as they willknow better than me lol. Terrie
Rainmaker 7
As above really. Eggs are perfect little protein sources (100% bioavailable, containing all required amino acids in exactly the correct proportions) and are full of goodness. The shells are full of calcium and if you can get the dog to eat them, "crack on"! My dogs never would/will eat the shells, but they get raw meaty bones every day anyway so it's no biggie. Raw egg is excellent, personally I'd prefer those over boiled but it's not the end of the world. Some folks will tell you that dogs (and humans etc) can get a biotin deficiency due to the avidin content in eggs. However, that is in the egg WHITE... the YOLK contains more than enough vitamin B to balance it out the other way in the dog's favour. In other words make sure you provide whole eggs not just whites. Cooking eggs denatures the avidin and stops any chance of biotin deficiency btw, but so long as the eggs are whole you're better off feeding raw. If nothing else it'll stop any chance of the eye watering farts

lurchergrrl 1,441
I like to give mine raw eggs outside, just hand them the egg and watch them have a go. But cooked eggs is a different story and I never give mine cooked - very runny scrambled is as close as I give them. Dogs and men have many things in common and one is the nuclear reaction that comes from eating cooked eggs

I had my GSD many years ago and didn't know about such things then. We don't have a coal fire now, but my lurcher gets a couple of the large charcoal Bonios every morning about an hour before we go for our walk so she has something to keep her going before her first feed at about lunchtime.
