I used to travel up from Yorkshire every winter for the Grayling fishing on the Teviot which was awesome.This ofcourse is just up the road from you. Occasionally we timed it wrong and there was water in. Ideally you want it low and clear. We had hoped for 2 pounders which we had been told of but did not beleive. However my wildest dreams were acheived with 6 fish over 2lb (several trips). My best was 3lb 2oz. The beats we fished were Hawick angling club (join in Hawick) and Jedforest angling club it was cheaper to join Hawick as day tickets were quite expensive and day tickets were available in Jedburgh for J F ac at the post office or the tackle shop next door. You have to give way to salmon anglers and they impose a maximum of three pound on the line you are allowed to use.

 

With these two clubs you have miles and miles of river to go at. Bait fishing is also allowed and of course there is no closed season although we were never there at that time . At the time we fished The Teviot and the Frome held the biggest specimens in the country. I am of course pleased with my fish but I definately saw larger grayling in the river !If you want any more info I am only two happy to oblige .

Yes the teviot has allways been a good river for grayling . Was speaking to a bloke last season who fishes the river blyth and he said that there were a few in there .And since then a few other fishermen have also said that to be true . Not sure were to get permits but they did tell me the blagdon stretch was good sport . Try blagdon fishing club think its a club or possibly a sindicate . Not sure of any other rivers to be honest , FV

Ive caught a couple from the river derwent on the durham border, a few miles below the reservior. Never heard of any in the Tyne river system.

I fished the River Derwent just up from Rowlands Gill for years and had some cracking Grayling but the farmers who allowed me to fish free have both died and new owners want no-one on There are Grayling throughout the Derwent river, Rowlands Gill and below is run by Axwell Angling Club I think and you can definitely get day tickets for it.From the ink works and upover is run by Derwent Angling Club, don't know about day tickets but I joined a couple of seasons ago and I think it was only about £40 per annum. The stretch I used to fish was spot on and there is no reason why the rest of the river should be any less.

DOH It always seams so far away from mine that I think im in another system altogether, so I suppose there may be grayling in other areas of the tyne, yet ive never caught one, or even heard of any being caught in North or South Tyne, would love to have someone tell me otherwise though....

me too mate

thought maybe the rede might have held some or one of the smaller tribs like tarset burn etc

gonna look at the derwent as am workin down that way next week
